Prologue
"We'll see you around Marcel," the bullies sneered, sauntering away from him, accepting the shouts and highfives in congratulations from their classmates.
No One liked Marcel, the school's social outcast, they just saw him as an insignificant, a mistake considering his twin brother ruled this place. The bullies, had only been Edward's lankies. Following at his beck and call. Sounds terrible right? A brother sending others out to do his bidding against his own twin? Sounds pretty horrific to me, which makes absolutely no sense to why that he just so happened to be my best friend.
Marcel fell to the ground in a pathetic heap, but he never did anything to defend himself. Only let the beatings continue leaving him whimpering and sobbing at every punch. Then he'd get up and pretend it never happened, never speaking a word to anyone.
He tried to keep his bruises hidden, but I saw them, I always saw them. He tried to keep his sobbing quiet, but I heard them. I always did. He attempted to shield his feelings, but I knew, he was hurting. Alot. And did I do anything to help? No. I did nothing at all.
Every strike, marking his beautiful face, it took everything in me to not jump in front of the powerful fist and take it for myself. I deserved as much. Though I never did the violence myself, I always knew it was going to happen. Edward kept me well informed, in fact he actually expected me to laugh as he indulged on his latest evil scheme.
Of course I couldn't do that, because what I won't admit to anyone other than myself, I may or may not have taken a major liking to Marcel. Maybe just a bit.
I just wish the others could see what I see, and not what Edward's frightened them into thinking, I wish they could see that underneath the dorky glasses and the obsessive hair gel, there's a person. A kind, smart, beautiful, genuine person. And he doesn't deserve this, he never has.
"I'm sorry Marcel.." I mumble low enough for only my ears to hear. "I'm just so sorry." And then I left him, beaten to the ground, glasses shattered, and pencils snapped. I left him there. Alone, like always.
