Live Like You're Dying

Chapter 1

"Happy birthday Lils," my brother yelled suddenly and I groaned. I was having such a good dream and he ruined it. Apparently I can't even sleep in on my birthday. I dragged the covers over my head, hoping it would make Adam leave me alone. Suddenly a horn was blown right next to my ear. I screamed and sat up scrambling and managed to fall off my bed with a thud. I glared at him as he leaned over laughing.

"I hate you. I swear if you don't leave right now, I'll make sure you never see your 24th birthday," I said as I gave him a death glare. Immediately his face sobered up as he took a few steps away from me. I might be younger than him but I know exactly how to scare him. He chuckled forcefully and scratched the back of his head.

"Be nice. It's your birthday. You can finally drink legally. My little sis is becoming a big girl. Anyway your hot friend Rachel will be here in a hour to take you out shopping so you look "sexy" partying tonight. I wouldn't want to keep Rachel waiting. She's a feisty one. Just the way I like them," Adam laughed. I shuddered of the thought of my best friend and brother. That would never happen though. They fight too much. Adam took off quickly as I launched a pillow at him and missed terribly. Even though we playfully fight a lot we got along great. I was happy to be his roommate. Looking at the time I noticed it was eleven in the morning. I pulled myself to my feet and started to get ready. I started with a shower. After I got out I threw on some light blue jean shorts with a white tank top. I tied up my long wavy hair up and started to apply a little eye liner and mascara. I was just about done when I heard the arguing. Well Rachel was here. I finished and grabbed my cell phone and left my bedroom.

"You're such a moron Adam. You're so disrespectful towards women," Rachel yelled. I sighed. This wasn't anything new. I walked into the living room from the hallway and found Rachel sitting on the couch with her arms crossed. "You're brother is such an ass Lilly," she mumbled as glared at Adam as he casually sat down beside her and swung his arm around her as if they were best friends.

"Awe baby, you know you love me. Me saying that your boobs look good in that shirt is a compliment," he said and flashed her a smirk. She shook her head and looked at him with disgust. Then she looked at me before standing up and linked her arm in mine.

"Anyway while your brother is being immature, we better get going. I'm gonna make you look so sexy tonight. I've been waiting to be able to take you to your first club," Rachel said cheerfully as she dragged me out of my apartment. I didn't even get a chance to say goodbye to Adam. Oh well. I'll see him later tonight, if I survived this shopping trip.

A few hours and a few too many dresses later I found myself being trapped in another dressing room as Rachel threw dress after dress for me to try on over the top.

"Can't we just quit? I'm sure I have something at home," I complained. I hated trying on clothes. I didn't mind the actual shopping part. I listened as Rachel mumbled things under breath. I pretended I didn't hear.

"Oh shut up. You're 21 now and going to your first club. You gotta have something new to wear. Oh! This is just perfect. You gotta try this one on and show me," Rachel gushed and I just barely got the dress that went flying over the top of the dressing room door. It was simple, yet beautiful. The dress was black and strapless. It wasn't tight, yet it wasn't baggy and it ended mid thigh. I tried in on eagerly and looked in the mirror. I loved it immediately.

"I love it!" I said as I walked out of the dressing room. Rachel turned around and looked at me. She looked at me and wiggled in eyebrows in a sexual manner which made me laugh. Then she motioned me to twirl. I felt like a girly girl as I spun around for her.

"We're getting that dress whether you like it or not. Now hurry up and put your regular clothes on. It's already five. Chop! Chop!" Rachel ordered me and ushered me back into the dressing room. I actually felt excited about going out tonight now. I was finally 21 years old. It was my time to party it up.

After stopping for food, Rachel and I walked into my apartment with our hands full of bags. Immediately we began to get ready. I pulled my hair down and added some natural looking waves to give it a wild look while Rachel straightened hers. I added some eyeliner and mascara, but not too much while Rachel went with the smokey look and red lips. I slip on my dress and some black heels. I looked at my reflection and suddenly I looked and felt 21.

"You look so gorgeous," Rachel squealed and threw her arms around me. I spun around and looked at her appearance. Her dress was red and mid thigh. It was also strapless and it flared out. She nearly looked 25. I felt like a kid compared to her.

"Are you guys done yet? It's been two hours now. You chicks take forever," Adam whined outside my door. Rachel rolled her eyes and snatched her purse from my bed before snapping my bedroom door open. Adam's annoyed expression quickly turned into a shocked one. I held back a laugh as he jaw completely fell open and his eyes widened as he stared at her. She placed her hand on her hips and tapped her heel.

"Ahem, hormonal guy, my face isn't my tits. I suggest you stop staring before I slap you," she hissed. At first it was like he didn't even hear her, but then he smirked. I knew exactly how this would end. Ugly.

"Well they look so nice in that dress. But they would look so much better without." Not even a second after the words left his mouth, Rachel's purse went soaring through the air and got a direct hit on his left cheek. The sound sliced through the silence.

"What the hell do you have in that thing?! That had to be like twenty pounds. I could have a freaking concussion now!" he yelled as he rubbed his now red cheek. Rachel shook her head and shoved him out of the way and began walking away.

"Oh tell it to someone who cares. Suck it up," she stated. I shook my head as they started arguing like usual. I grabbed my purse and followed the arguing boy and girl out to my car. That's when I got annoyed by their constant bickering. So I grabbed both of their ears, twisted and pulled, hard. Right away they stopped arguing and started complaining about the pain.

"Okay, let's get this straight. You two will stop arguing at this very moment. It's my birthday and we're gonna have fun and party. Got it?" I demanded. I released their ears and grinned in satisfaction as they nodded their heads furiously. "Now bitches in the back. And that means you Adam."

I know this is short, but I just wanted to get it out there. I guess you could consider it a teaser. Let me know your opinions. I would greatly appreciate it.
