We pulled up behind her next to a couple two bedroom tin cans. Cody and me looked at each other with pretty sad faces right then. Then as Cody being Cody smiled at me and asked if we where home? I said, no lil man this is still just temporary. It didn't smudge his smile one bit. And pipes open his door and bounced out all Christmas morning happy. I was lost on the little shit got out before I did, then climbed myself out my door.Tammy walded her way over to me and handed me a key and a address wrote down on a old cigarette pack. There you go, be there tomorrow and the blue one is yours, she said. I looked over at baby blue Mobil Home so entrench in trees and bushes I could barely make out a path to the front door. Tammy tastelessly grunted out a "when you get paid every day stop by to see her every day. She snapped around back to her car and sped off.
Cody and me just sorta looked at each other with lost looks in our faces for about a awkward 2 minutes. It popped in my head for safety reasons i need to get off the street. Time to be Dad, Sam. I smiled and said "time to unpack"
We got up to the door and luckily the key worked. We walked inside and the stench of must wasn't to bad. We walked in to a 60's wonderland all the way down to the old steel table with cigarette burned chairs. But, it was completely furnished and had power.
Took us about 3 hours to unpack everything in the middle of the living room floor. Cody was on about hour two claiming to be dieing of thirst and laying on the bags of clothes that made there way in a corner. I got the bathroom and beds set up and double checked the alarm clock of course. I said we are finally finished, what do you want to do first. He jumped up and screamed McDonald's in a exited lil scream of excitement. I died in side thinking ,three times in one day kinda death. My ureteral response was "We'll see..."
To my account I hadn't realized it was the only place in town to eat out. The damb town was the off ramp gas station, McDonald's and Fireworks stand was the entire town. The gas station had a line of P.O. boxes next to the road. The boy was all happy about this what the hell is happening kind of moment. Did I really stumbled upon a homeless camp town in Nebraska.
We munched on some more McDonald's with reluctantly satisfying results. It was about 7:30 when we got back to the trailer. I was wrecked tired and gave the boy a big hug and told him goodnight. I commented that while I was at work he needed to unpack. He replied back" I got you Dad". I smiled and crashed into bed hard and was out like a light. The last few days of stressing and nearly no sleep caught up with me.
The alarm went off and I jumped up and was ready in about 2 minutes. I wasn't going to miss my first day of any new job.
