I'm Alyssa Woods.
Aly.
Yep, that's me, I'm Aly Woods, 17 years old and studying at West Coast High. I don't really stand out, no. Not with my black hair and black eyes, no. I blend in, and I like it that way. I'm not very special at anything. I don't have a hidden talent like juggling plates or skydiving while water-skiing. I blend in. I like how I am. I don't try to change myself.
I have a few acquaintances, but I only have 2 close friends - Andrea Baker and Samantha Gonzales. Andrea's very pretty, and I'm not just saying that because she's my friend. I mean she's really pretty. Half the guys in our school would ask her out if they could. She has long black hair with soft curls and dark brown eyes you could get lost in. Her tanned skin and defined facial features adds to her list of breath-taking features. Sam's also really pretty, but in a different way. She has a lightly tanned skin tone. She has blue eyes and short brown hair in a bun, like, all the time. Her facial features are more of soft than defined, unlike Rea's. Basically, they look like goddesses, and I am a mere peasant.
But this peasant likes the way she is. This peasant likes to stay in the background. This peasant, however, does not like being humiliated in public. Ah yes, that fateful day. Let me tell you all about it.
It started at lunch. I was super hungry and I wanted to eat. There I was, minding my own business, heading over to the table where Sam and Rea sat, and then suddenly... BAM! Before I knew it, I was sprawled on the floor with my burrito, oh my beloved burrito, splattered across my grey hoodie. I looked back, and there it was. A foot. Belonging to none other than the most arrogant person I had ever encountered — Alex Parker.
Giggling erupted around me. Parker snickered while his friends surrounded him, looking absolutely mortified. Well at least they have a heart. I looked up at them and I stood up, facing Parker now. "May I help you?" He smirked. Ah yes, the smirk. The smirk, with his wonderfully silvery white hair and silvery-blue eyes, and his chiseled jaw and defined features, God. Any girl would fall for that. Haha, yea, fall. Thankfully, when you're as abnormal as I am, you don't fall that easy for someone. "Yes," I said, without missing a beat. "Please stop being a pitiful excuse for a human being and do something worthwhile with your life."
"But this is worthwhile," he said, not wiping the smirk off his face. "If this is worthwhile for you, then you must be pretty boooooooring." I fake-yawned. "Have a nice, boring day!" I smiled sweetly, picking of a piece of burrito on my shirt and flicking it to his face. I proceeded to head to the cafeteria doors and leave that arrogant prick. I was not going to let him get the best of me. To be honest, I was on the verge of tears, but I managed not to cry in front of the whole school. I was infuriated. But fortunately, math was my next class. I enjoyed math, believe it or not.
But yes, as fate would have it, Alex Parker is in the same class.
* * *
Parker sat next to me in math, much to my dismay. "Psst," he hissed. "Woods!"
"What do you want, Parker?" I whisper-yelled, not looking up from the equation I was trying to solve. "I-" he started. "WOODS! PARKER! MEET ME AFTER CLASS!" Miss Adams shrieked. Although math was my favorite subject, Miss Adams was not the most friendly of teachers. I groaned inwardly as I burned red in the face. Parker's fault. Now I have soiled my good standing with Miss Adams because of Parker's selfishness and arrogance and ugh.
Moments passed and soon we were the only ones left in Miss Adams's class. "Miss Woods, I expected better from you," she started. "And you, Mr. Parker, are not to chat with any of your classmates in my class. Is that clear?" We nodded. "Now, you'll both be doing extra work to keep up your good standing," she handed us a pile of paper. "I want these checked properly by next week on my table."
After we left, I said to Parker, "This is all your fault," and kicked him in the shin, and ran away leaving him with all the papers. As long as I avoid him, he has no choice but to do the work. No way in hell am I going to check all those papers! Haha, good luck, Parker.
Little did I know that that decision would change my life as I know it.
