Layna drove fast on her way back home; she savored the feel of the car beneath her. It was one thing to revel in speed but to find one all too powerful was too huge an enticement, not to adhere to.
She smiled as she steered the wheel, how excited she had been when she had boasted in front of Alan about Thomas Conrad coming over to her college, of course she had been teased mercilessly by him, which Layna reluctantly agreed to, had sent a streak of pleasure bouncing through her. She felt as giddy as a child tasting candy for the first time.
She laughed invariably as she recalled how Alan’s face always showcased emotions of complete disbelief and horror whenever he reacted to her choice of being a professor.
How could she explain what teaching meant to her, it wasn’t just a service. To see that passion in the eyes of the students, to fire their curiosity, perceive the path they chose to walk upon, to kindle in them an interest that would not be doused by any known/unknown impediments.
It wasn’t just her fervor, her zeal but her way of living life with content. Working without satisfaction according to her was a waste of time and this was her bundle of happiness.
Layna drew to a stop near her house, a modest building with an exuberance exterior thanks to her cousin sister Mia who took all the credit for it, as she was the interior designer, and had pursued the project till she had made a beauty it was today, their house. Layna waved exuberantly to the flash of light that beamed on her, that was the doing of her paranoid journalist cousin sister, Emily who had insisted and got her way around with having an advanced alarm system installed.
Layna grumbled but smiled, she knew as much as she might moan, she couldn’t think of living apart from them.
The house she was currently walking to, was shared by three of them, away from the family still keeping them close by barely five miles.
Her father, a congressman; Emily’s father, a recluse famous author and Mia’s father; a hot shot attorney, all real brothers, the three- Patt’s, initially had hesitated, fought quite a bit but had to bow down in front of their beautiful, handful, adamant daughters.
Layna entered the house without a knock but a loud jarring,” Mia, I am home,” she screamed and found no answer.
She pursued her lips and narrowed her eyes, as she was made to shut up with a fierce look from Mia, a natural blonde, with sharp features that gave her an exotic look thanks to her mother of an Indian heritage; round big, blue eyes hidden underneath a pair of purple reading glasses were busy drawing odd shapes filled with varied bright colors.
“Great, you’re back early, I wasn’t expecting you for at least an hour, so much for having a peaceful night,” Mia mumbled.
Before Layna could retort, Emily walked in from the kitchen, barefoot carrying with her a plate filled with vivid, yummylicious food, “You’re back, good, was missing the gossip, so any new date confirmed?”
Layna fumbled as she stood rooted to the spot and dropped her gaze in pure embarrassment as she recounted her shameful escape.
