“What do you think they want to talk to us about?” I questioned my brother.
“I haven’t a clue” he said as he watched me pace the room. “Alexa would you please calm down.”
“I can’t mommy sounded so…. Um I don’t know, she just sounded weird” I told him recalling the conversation with my mother.
Flashback****
“Alexandra honey”
“Yes mommy”
“I um…. I um need you and Alexander in the house” she sniffled. What the hell is going on? My mother can’t get her words straight, and she called me honey.
“Why?”
“Just do as I asked” she snapped. “I… I’m sorry bunny it’s just….look I’ve got to go just be in the house.” With that she hung up the phone.
End Flashback*****
“Just forget about it, I’m sure she meant nothing by it” Alex said focusing on his video game.
My family, the St. Clair’s was a perfect family. My parents were both successful wealthy blue bloods. Who even though they were born with silver spoons in their mouth, still worked very hard. My parents Lily and Alexander St. Clair were married at the early age of seventeen and a year after my brother and I came along. We are very happy, my mother is like my best friend. We tell each other everything well so I thought. But somehow I had a feeling that something wasn’t right, that she was keeping something from me and that hurt.
Giving up on my pacing, I went over to sit with Alex. “Move over” I said nudging him. He moved over and handed me one of the video controllers and chuckled.
“What’s so funny” I asked joining in the game.
“You know you’re one of the only girls I know that love playing video games” he laughed. I wonder if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. I decided not to ask.
“Mr. Alexander, Ms. Alexandra”
“What is it Betsey?” Alex asked for the both of us.
“You are wanted in the library by Mr. and Mrs. St. Clair immediately” Betsey informed us still standing in the doorway.
“Alright then, we will be down in a minute” Alex told her.
“As you wish sir” Betsey then closed the door.
I looked at Alex. “The library?”
“I know it’s weird but let’s not keep them waiting.” He turned off the game that I was winning, and helped me up. “Come on” he said giving me a look which told me to calm down. I looked down and noticed I was fidgeting. I put my hands at my side and put my head up and followed my brother to the library.
“Darlings” my mother said rushing over to us when we stepped into the two story library. “Oh bunny I’m sorry if I scared you earlier, I did not mean too.” She said placing my face between her manicured hands. I smiled at her and let her know it was okay.
“Well the reason we called you two down here is because your seventeenth birthday is two months away and well” my dad was fidgeting now.
I grabbed Alex hand, something was wrong very wrong. Alex looked at me reading my thoughts, and then looked back at my father and my mother. He took a step back pulling me with him. “What’s going on” he asked taking a protective step in front of me.
“Alex it’s no need to be frighten we will never harm you or your sister” my father said. “I just need to tell you… that you…. And your sister, are to be married.” I gasped and stepped away from Alex seeing that his face mirrored the disgust in mine. “No, no not to each other” he informed us. But wait he still said married.
