My nerves were shot as I drove down 45 south heading into the lovely town of Houston. The city was booming already as the commuters hurried to get to their day jobs. Traffic sucked but it gave me plenty of time to try and calm my thoughts. This would be the first real time I'd come face to face with the girl whom I had once known all about. Our story goes back to rehash it all at once, but let's just say we had been through some shit and came out on the other end. It had been a good couple of years since we'd last spoke, yet out of the blue she decided it was time to say "fuck it" and find me.
Yet here we were, and my heart could barely take the anticipation. The GPS said I still had a good 40 minutes, "fucking traffic" I said turning the music up high to try and drowned out my thoughts. Finally the performing arts building came into view and I pulled into the parking lot we said we'd meet in. I drove around the lot looking for a spot in the back, mostly to stay out of sight. I backed into a spot and killed the engine. My eyes watched every car that made its way into filling lot. The time slowly ticked by until I watched her pull into the lot, her car stopped and her friend got out. She waved goodbye and headed towards and empty spot near the front. My phone soon buzzed with a message, "I'm here."
My stomach turned just enough as I grabbed my phone, "me too."
"Where? I'm in the front."
"I know." 'Well that's not creepy at all.' I thought shaking my head.
"So...?"
"Heading that way now." I said taking a deep breath and sliding out from behind my drivers side. I had a million thoughts running through my head as I locked up my car. Each one a different way to say hi, 'calm your nerves jackass' I thought. My imagination was running wild with things I knew would never happen no matter how bad I wanted them too. Reality was simple, say hi like a normal person even if the situation wasn't all that normal.
I walked across the parking lot, "behind you" I said and made my way toward the back of her car. I watched as she looked in her mirror, a slight smile spreading across her face. 'Here goes nothin.' Her car door opened and my eyes focused on her wrist, a silver charm bracelet jingled as she moved. Her leg slide out, shorts showing off her calves, my eyes drifted up passed her knee landing high on her thigh. 'Stop starving.' I thought forcing my eyes to move. And they did, up her body until finally landing on her face.
