Maya woke up to her phone exploding with messages. She checked the time

What the?

Then Maya realized the date. It was her birthday, her eighteenth birthday. She unlocked her phone and prepared to text Riley back, she was always first to text her on her birthday.

But when Maya scrolled down to the first message she recevied and her heart stopped for a second.

Boing ;)
Happy birthday ferret! I can't wait to see you again tonight I've missed you this week! <3

Mayas stomach errupted in butterflies, he texted her before Riley could. 

No stop stomach. He's just a friend you ran into during school. Nothing more. Besides you have lucas.

Lucas didn't text you first. Lucas doesn't make your stomach flutter like Josh does.

No stop. 

Maya was pulled out of her thoughts when her phone buzzed again.

Maya felt guilty for some reason. This whole time Lucas was in Texas with his sick pappy Joe, Maya was meeting up with Josh for lunch, and dinner, and coffee. Any chance they got they would spend time together.

Maya shot Lucas a text back.

Aw thanks huckleberry! I wish you were here too! 

Maya didn't write that she loved him back, because honestly she was having her doubts lately. But it was just because she hadn't seen him in almost two months. 

She then decided to reply to josh. She bit her lip while texting back. 

Thank you boing:) You were the first text I got! So thank you for making my day! I can't wait to see you too! I suppose I've missed you too...

 There was that guilty feeling again. She sent a longer text to Josh then she did to Lucas, her boyfriend. 

Maya sighed and decided to just go back to bed.

"Happy Birthday baby girl!" Maya opened her eyes to see her parents. 

Katy was holding a cake and Shawn had a present in hand.

"Thanks mom" Maya smiled blowing out the candles.

Josh. She thought

No Maya stop, Lucas. you should be wishing for Lucas.

"What did you wish for?" Shawn asks

"Oh um a healthy year" Maya lied

She can't tell her parents shes wishing for a boy that isn't her boyfriend. 

"Well kiddo Riley is probably anxiously awaiting your arrival. But open your present first" 

Maya took the small bag and the wrapped box. 

She opened the bag and her eyes met the a new phone. 

She squealed.

"Thank you thank you thank you!" She hugged her parents while holding her new Iphone 6s

The next present was a new sketchbook, canvas', and drawing utensils. She thanked her parents once again before kicking them out so she could get ready.

*Knock knock*

Maya turned to the window and her eyes met a pair of blue ones. She smiled and rolled her eyes. Maya walked over to the window and opened it letting the older boy in.

Josh sent Maya a smile as he climbed in.

"Boing, what are you doing here?" 

"I just couldn't stay away" He smirked pulling her close by the waist. 

Mayas heart picked up and blood rushed to her cheeks. She knew he was kidding. Sadly.

She shoved his chest.

"Ha ha very funny" She rolled her eyes

"I told you I missed you, I wasn't going to wait until the party to see you" Josh shrugged.

Maya nodded her head as she looked in the mirror at her appearance.

Josh walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist, so her back was on his chest. 

"You look beautiful Maya" he told her

Maya blushed more.

"But,"

"But what?" Maya asks quickly worried

"You'd look better with this," Josh says holding up a necklace with a chain that had the letter 'M' on it. 

She gasped

"Josh you didn't have to," 

"I wanted to," he shrugged.

Josh knew she thought the 'M' meant Maya, but to him it meant Matthews. He hooked the necklace around her neck.

"There, perfect" Josh smiled.

"Thank you," She blushed.

They both stood like that for awhile, just looking at each other through the mirror. Joshs arms around Mayas waist and Mayas hands on his arms. 

Perfect 

Maya thought to herself. 

Josh slowly turned her around so she was facing him, his heart was racing. The both were looking at each other. Josh slowly leaned in, and Maya couldn't help but lean in too. 

Their lips were centimeters away when they heard the door opening and quickly jumped away from each other.

"May- oh Josh it's nice to see you again" Katy smiled at him

josh rubbed the back of his neck, he was flustered.

"You too Mrs. Hunter. Riley sent me to get Maya" He covered up the real reason he was here.

"Okay! Well I was just going to tell Maya that Shawn and I would be over later tonight" 

"Okay mom" Maya said. 

Katy left the two shutting the door. 

"We should go" Josh started

"Yeah you're right" Maya replied 

Great, way to go Maya. You almost kissed him!

But his lips are so kissable.

Maya!

This was going to be a long birthday full of tension.
