Prologue

The sun shone bright as I skipped through the rows of flowers. My favourite yellow dress catching in the wind as I let out giggles.

It was nice to be outside, to be free. Nobody to tell you what to do, where to go. You go wherever the wind takes you, at least that's what my mother says.

I was soon out of breath, sitting abruptly on the grass covered ground.

There was a rustle in the bushes. I hastily get up, brushing the dirt of my dress as much as I could.

A foot stepped out, adorned with a worn out boot and I gasped, taking a step back. A man, fully emerged from behind the bush. His attire strange, but complimenting him nonetheless.

"Hello? " The strange man called out. His voice desperate to hear something, a form of reassurance that he was not alone.

"Hi" I called out and his eyes brightened, finding a human, finding company. He stumbled over, his lonng, lanky legs woblimg slightly as he made his way over to me.

"Can I ask where I may be?" He asked politely, his voice filled with happiness for some reason. There wasn't much to be happy about nowadays.
Famine was soon approaching and it was rather hot in this season.

"You're rather strange." I complimented. Walking around him in a circke to make sure he wasn't armed. Mother had warned me about strangers.
But this man was oddly intriguing, his clothes making him sticking out like a sore thumb amongst the boring attire most adults were fond of wearing. Being strange was a good thing to me. This place is always boring, it couldn't hurt for a little excitement around here.

"Is that good in this case because you seem equally as strange, young lady." He replied. I took a stop in front of him and smiled. He seemed nice. Mother would definitely kill me if she saw me talking to such a stranger. I gave him a smile, extending my arm for a handshake. He stared at my hand oddly. Contemplating whether to respond to my gesture. His lip curved into a crooked smile, extending his arm too, gripping my hand as we had a firm handshake.

"The name's Maya. Nice to meet you, strange man." I said, introducing myself.

"I'm Harry. And the feeling is mutual, strange little girl."
