Short thing, should I continue??
Your ratty old sneakers pressed up against the heated street, a collection of Star Trek trading cards in your hands and your brother next to you on the curb.
"I will give you this" Dustin held up his "Shore Leave" card, and jutted a finger at your "Conscience of the King" card, chomping down on his wad of pink bubble gum with a toothy smile.
You narrowed your eyes, breathing in the fresh summer air and shaking your head at him.
"And who do you think I am?" You leaned forwards with raised brows, slipping away the card in your deck.
You smiled. "Some sort of idiot?"
He huffed, pushing away his own cards and taking a swing of his grape soda.
"Whatever." He gruffly replied, setting down his now empty soda can.
"DUSTIN! Y/N!" shouted an enthusiastic Lucas from down the street, and you turned your head to see the boys emerging from down the road, all pumping their legs on their bicycles and flashing monstrous grins. You looked at the extra biker, Jonathan Byers. It was strange to not see him riding around in his hunk-o'-junk of a car, rather a bicycle a little too small for him. But then again, he was one of the tallest people you've seen, everything seemed small next to him.
You bit your lip, smiling as the kids skid up to the curb.
"Hellooo Hendersons." Beamed Will, hopping off his bike and snatching Dustin's card stack. The boys all dropped their bikes on the road, and crowding around the younger Byers. You glanced up to Jonathon, locking immeidetly onto his eyes and looking down quickly.
"These suck ass." Lucas looked over his shoulder, studying the cards before Dustin could grab them back.
"Ahh-shut up." Your capped brother mumbled, shoving the cards in his pocket and scowling at his friends.
"I got some moolah, wanna get iceceam?" Mike dug down into his pocket and flashed out a ten dollar bill. Dustin eyed it excitedly and nodded his head, curls bouncing around sloppily.
You picked yourself up from the curb, taking a step up on the sidewalk. "I'm gonna head home, Dustin. Be safe or mom'll have my skin."
"Why don't you come with us?" Will tilted his head to the left, and you felt yourself under the wide stares of your brother's friends.
"Oh-I don't have a bike. Wouldn't wanna be a burden. " You rubbed at your neck, avoiding the eye contact of the boys and the quiet Byers who secretly drove you crazy.
"You can just hop on the back of Jonathon's bike!" Lucas loudly spoke, pointing his hand at the silent teenager with a grin. The older Byers looked up abruptly, eyes large and mouth parted as he stuttered out words.
The boys smiled at each other.
"I wouldn't wanna be a-"
"It's okay." He interupted you, inhaling deeply.
"A-ah. Alright." You released a shaky laugh before picking up you dark backpack. The boys shared a subtle victorious motion and climbed onto their bicycles, and you hesitantly neared where Jonathon stood on his.
"You sure?"
"No big deal." He looked away and to anywhere you weren't as you slowly boosted yourself onto his pegs and gently placed your hands on his shoulders. The fabric of his black shirt felt soft and up close he smelled like freshly baked cupcakes.
He shivered under the feel of your hands, starting up his bike and riding slowly.
The boys peddled quickly, not minding the difference in paces they had between the two of you.
"You don't have to go so slow. I can hold on." You quietly spoke over his shoulder, face heating up a bit.
He nodded and mumbled something a along the lines of 'okay'.
The faster he went the tighter you held on, now clasping your arms around him securely and grazing your chin up against his left shoulder. He gulped and continued, feeling his heart race as he flew down hill, your hair flying up in the wind and hitting against his neck.
"Didn't know you had a bike." You sniffed slightly, looking up at the sky.
"It's old, from before I drove everywhere."
"Ah. I never actually learned to ride a bike." You hummed and at this he laughed. It sounded soft and smooth and made you (quite simply) happy.
"Really? Isn't that a crime or something?"
"Who knows. Just never thought it was worth it. I prefer walking. Going slow. Enjoying life at my own pace." You looked up at the boys, who were all laughing heartily at God knows what. Every now and then one would glance back.
"I get that, I do. I-...that's..." He inhaled, looking back at you and straight into your eyes. He looked forewords again, smiling.
"Understandable."
You nodded once, studying the side of Jonathon's face that was (even from this angle ) very obviously flushed up.
You looked down and smiled, keeping your grip on the shaggy haired boy's shoulders.
