We were supposed to hang out
that Monday.

I didn't bug you about it
since I knew
you had a big weekend.

You posted to snapchat,
that Monday.
A picture of your arm,
a medical band around
your wrist,
and what looked like bruises
up and down.

It gave me a cold shiver.
I asked
what had happened.
With nothing more than
the few words you typed,
you said you tried to
kill yourself.

Bone crushing
lightning bolts
shot up my spine
and all other parts
of my body,

you said.
"I'm going away again"
you said.
"I'll call you when I'm out"
you said.
"I'm sorry"
you said.

No words had
frighten me
the way
these did.

And
for one minute,
I thought
she finally made
her world
the way
she wanted.

Now
it goes to show,
perception
is nowhere near
the truth.

You've reached the end of published parts.
