Dave Strider walked into the bar and scanned the scene. He spotted his informer, the Handsome troll looked like he belonged, thick black jacket with a calm exterior. He quietly slid into the seat next to the troll and ordered himself a drink. He didn't touch it, and instead leaned back and tried to sound casual. His pulse never raced with other informants but something about this one made his heart beat faster and his cool exterior crack."Nice day for a storm isn't it?" Asked the stranger before Dave could utter a word. It was the code phrase and he was amazed his voice didn't shake in reply "Wonderful day for thunder" Dave muttered in reply. Dave turned and was startled to see the Troll was looking right at him. He had to push up the black shades on his eyes while the troll adjusted his own glasses. "are you going to conduct business?" The troll rumbled, but other ideas of ways he could spend time with his informant flashed through his unfiltered mind. Dave couldn't help the charming grin that crept onto his face. "Word has it, you're a witness" Dave breathed softly as he finally took a sip of the drink. "Word has it you wanted to speak with me. Cut to the chase Detective." The troll rumbled back. He was stalling, and it seemed that the troll knew. "Your name" he tried, wanting something to call the other. "Zaniet" The Informant said back, and stiffened when he was patted lightly on the back. "Well Zaniet, I want EVERYTHING you know" and that's exactly what Zaniet gave.
"Well, I guess you could say I was a victim of circumstance Detective. I normally don't take short cuts, since others are bound to know about them. I don't do, others. But for some reason I decided to take the alley. That's when I saw it. There were two of 'em... and both of them were dead." The Troll growled, shaking his head. Dave was amazed that someone who had witnessed death could be so calm. But this also set him on edge, what secrets did this person have? He nodded slowly, and listened to Zaniet as he continued. "I was horrified, honestly, it wasn't right. They had been killed by something else, and the smile on the wall in their blood. One human, one troll. 'Olly Olly Oxen Free' in blue and red blood on the walls. I ran as fast as I could before I heard someone call my name from the exit. Than I heard someone yell freeze. So I froze. It was the police, and I tried to explain to them it wasn't ME. They didn't listen". Dave nodded in reply, watching the face of the Troll, noticing there was no horror or grief as he recounted the story."So they took me into custody, and forced me to recount my story. I told them everything I'm telling you. They eventually let me go, since those guys had been killed hours earlier. I was off the hook. Still am, for now." He finished his story and shrugged. He ordered himself a drink, while Dave inspected his face. He couldn't see guilt, but he also couldn't see any other emotion. He really was emotionless as someone had warned him. Calm, Cold, and Calculating. Dave didn't know what sort of "person" this troll was but it sure as hell wasn't the sane kind. He swallowed and nodded slowly, before speaking slowly "How do I know YOU didn't commit the crime?". Zaniet looked over at him, and shrugged. "You don't. You only have my word against the police." The Troll said, before picking up the drink he had ordered. He took a slow sip and than sighed. Dave nodded, he hadn't noticed that he had finished his own drink. He set down the glass and tilted his head. "I believe you." was all Dave said before standing up and turning. "But you have to earn trust" he finished, walking towards the door. He didn't know that two unnatural eyes bored into the back of his head as he exited the bar. He also didn't know that behind him the Troll stood and payed for both drinks, before walking after him. He didn't know that he was in a whole lot of trouble.
