I'm just including this because I'm not gonna say what's wrong with them in the actual chapters. Also, I'm relating their issue to their peculiarity.
Trigger warning: includes stuff about physical and sexual abuse, depression, and some other things like that.
Emma has bipolar disorder and OCD; things need to be just right or she freaks out and gets quite angry; her mother thought she was a demon; her father tried to force her to get over her disorder; her sister was the one who helped her get away and get professional help.
Millard's father sexually abused him when he was young; his mother knew, but did nothing; nobody really payed him any attention at all, so he often felt unseen, unheard, and almost like he didn't even exist.
Enoch has sociopathic personality disorder and antisocial personality disorder, which stems from his apathetic father and short-tempered mother; where he grew up, none of the other children wanted to be his friends, so he often spoke to the corpses his father worked on.
Bronwyn's having an abusive step-father is actually canon; her mother was cold and indifferent; she always wanted to fight back against her father; the reason she is such a motherly figure towards the younger children is because she didn't really have that; on top of all that, she has mild autism.
Claire has an eating disorder; it was a condition she was born with, but her vain mother fueled it until, one day, she passed out on the playground; she wished she could have a second mouth with which she could eat and sustain herself, but she'd stay skinny and pretty.
Olive's brain produces an abnormal amount of oxytocin; she's always happy and optimistic, but her condition makes it difficult for her to cope with darker situations.
Hugh's parents spoiled him like crazy; they let him say and do whatever he wanted; he was never wrong; he would say whatever was on his mind at whatever moment; like bees, sometimes they stung, and others, they made honey; over time, he got a better understanding of right and wrong, but he still has trouble sometimes.
Fiona was bullied and isolated by her village; they teased her and taunted her until she ran away; she had developed a fear of society and civilization, which was why she spent so much time outdoors and among nature.
Horace has always had a general distaste for change; but he downright feared anything that came without warning; whenever something happened and he had no warning whatsoever, he would panic; ever since he was a little kid, he's been searching for a way to tell the future, so that he wouldn't get scared whenever something happened.
Jacob's grandfather, Abe, created the "Peculiar Game" when he was at the home in the forties; that game has been passed down from one generation of patients to the next and has changed very little.
So that's some general background; I'll go deeper into things later on.
I hope you enjoy!
