Jung Hoseok

"Hoseok."

I look up and see my parents standing at my door. They are dressed in their pyjamas so it looks like I woke them up. I lie down on my bed and groan.

"What?"

"Where were you?" they ask.

"Why would you care?" I reply.

"Where were you?" my mom asks.

"I was out with friends." I say.

"Very well. Good night." my dad says.

Did they just dismiss the fact that I was lying? I smile to myself and close my eyes. I was about to drift off when I remembered that I needed to clean the scratch that girl gave me.

I sit up and look around my room, looking for the antibiotic ointment that my brother gave me a few months ago.

I walk to the bathroom and take a quick shower. I dry myself and blow dry my hair while I brush my teeth. It's faster if you do it that way. I put some of the gel on the corner of my lip. I brush my hair and walk back to my room. The whole house is dark which means that everyone is sleeping so I close my room door so the light doesn't bother anyone.

I turn on my laptop and start surfing the web. I scroll through people that I could follow on Instagram and I scroll through news articles. I click on an article and see a picture of a girl.

"Kang Nari Spotted on the Streets With a New Boyfriend... How Many Does She Have?"

The girl was the one I raced against. I read the article and find out that she was a rich man's daughter and she hangs around guys very often.

She abuses her fame and she takes advantage of the spotlight given to her because of her father.

If only our family could be like that. Then nobody would care about what I did. I scoff and turn off my laptop.

I put it aside and turn on my phone. I actually had two message notifications. I open them, excited to see who texted me. But I sigh to find out that it was my dad and brother. I roll over on my bed and scroll through my contacts.

Three contacts. My mom, dad, and brother.

Of course, who would have my number? I'm nobody's friend so of course they wouldn't text me. I have no one.

Who am I to others?

I'm nobody. I'm like an invisible person when I'm around them. They don't talk to me, they ignore me, and they don't even take notice of my appearance.

I turn off my phone and put it aside. I'm too lazy to get up to turn the lights off so I just leave them on. I close my eyes and let myself drift into deep slumber.

Kang Nari

"What is this?" my father shouts, throwing the newspaper on the table.
