The waters were flowing peacefully on the shores of Narragansett. The wind felt very calm to the touch. The beach seemed very empty, except for a few seagulls here and there. Plus, one other creature. A human.
John walked silently on the shoreline, with thoughts in his head. To him, the calm beach air made him feel relaxed, and at peace.
"Nice and peaceful today..." He said to himself, smiling softly as his gaze turned towards the ocean, the waves gently crashing against the sandy shore. "Makes me feel like I'm right at home."
In his early twenties, John seemed smart for his age. He always wore glasses, despite the fact that he could see fine without them. He was rarely ever seen with his navy New England Revolution hoodie, which he wore today. But the most amazing thing about him is that he gets friendly with other animals and creatures around him. And he can understand them too.
"Perhaps I should set down soon, have some lunch..." He thought, looking behind him at the backpack of food he was carrying with him. He looked around for a nice spot where he could sit down and eat, but before he could do that, he heard a noise in the distance. Looking ahead of him, he saw what looked like a pair of small creatures sitting on top of a rock. He couldn't really tell from this distance, but they looked like they were crying, hands covering their faces.
"What the..." he thought, as he took off running for the rock. What had been thoughts that made him relaxing and peaceful, now turned into thoughts of surprise. "What could be wrong?" he thought to himself as he kept running.
As he got closer, he was able to make out the shape of the two figures sitting atop the rock - a lone pair of Oshawott. The two of them were quietly sobbing away to each-other, and as he got closer still, he saw that the bodies of the Sea Otter Pokémon were covered in cuts, scratches and a few burns. The two looked like they had been through a lot, and it was amazing that they even had the energy to cry.
"Oh Arceus..." He said sadly as he knelt down beside them.
As he knelt down, one of the Oshawott looked up at him. Despite such a cute face, and a body that looked scratched as if it had come out of a rough battle, it looked sad, tears running down its face.
"Oh, my poor Oshawott," John said to the pair, "What's wrong?"
"Osha....Oshawott..." One of them tried to speak, trying to find the strength to get its voice above a dull whisper as the other one took over speaking. "Oshawott, Oshawott! Osh-Osha!" It spoke to John with a hint of panic and fear in its voice.
"Ok... you're saying that the two of you were just minding your own business, and from out of nowhere you were attacked by some fiery beast?"
"Wott Osha!" It nodded its head.
"Do you have any idea of what it is that attacked you? I mean it's obviously a Fire-type, but do you know which one?"
"Osha..." It responded.
"I'll take that as a 'no you don't..." He sighed.
At the same time, a look in the Oshawott's face made John think hard. The first thought that came into his head was what happened to their parents? They must've been killed by this fire beast. And the scars on the Oshawott must have come from them trying to save their parents. Now they must be out here crying because they have no one else to take care of them. This gave John an idea.
"Hey, I got an idea," he said with a hint of happiness in his tone, "How about if I start taking care of you guys? I promise you I will never let you two get hurt."
