Artemis POV.
It was quiet and dark. The room had barely any light, thanks to a small light bulb hanging in the middle of the room. I was sitting on the floor with my back against the wall and my head looking down on my feet. "What am I going to do with you?" A deep voice said somewhere in the dark part of the room. I felt panic was building up inside. I could feel my heart beat faster and harder in my chest. I heard footsteps walking over to where I was on the floor. "You won't listen, all you do is to argue with me. "The deep voice said and stepped out into the light. It was a man with dark brown almost black hair and dark brown eyes. His had a scar that went through his eyebrow and down to his left eye. His facial expression was dark and cold. His eyes were sharp, cold and dark. His body was in top form, some small muscles and you could see that one fight against him you would end up broken. "Dad, p-please d-don't make me." I begged him. "Don't beg for anything. That is weakness." He said with a lot of anger, as he grabbed me by the collar of my suit. "I-I d-don't w-want to kill anyone." I said while trying to hold back my tears. He threw me down on the floor again.
My eyes burst open as I went up in a sitting position. I was breathing heavily, and I looked around at my surroundings. I realist I was in my room at the West's house. My breathing slowly started to slow down when I realist it was just a nightmare. A memory at the time I was with my dad.
The house is quiet so they most still sleeping. I took up my phone and looked at the time."03:46, that explains why no one is up." I said as I put my phone back down. I stood up and took on my dark blue jacket and started to walk to the kitchen. After I have a nightmare I drink a glass of water and goes back to bed. Normally I would talk to my mom about it, but since she is trying to find my dad I have no one to talk too.
I took a glass from the cabinet and turn on the water. I let it run a little bit before I poured it in my glass. I drank it slow to calm myself down before I sat it on the bench. "Your still up?" a voice said behind me. I turn to see who was talking. "You should go the bed it's late." Carter said. "So, should you." I said as I looked at the clock over the breakfast table. "Couldn't sleep?" He asks as he walked to get him a glass and poured in some water. I just looked down at my feet. "Bad dream or?" He really wanted to know why I am not sleeping. "If you really have to know, yes bad dream." I said and looked up at him. "Do you want to talk about it? It could help." He said and looked at me as he sat his glass down. I didn't say anything. On one hand I wanted to talk to someone about it, but I barely know him, and I don't want to cry in front of him. "Hey it's ok." He said. I feel a hand on my shoulder. I looked up to see Carter look at me. His eyes are soft. "There is nothing to talk about. Just a bad dream." I said and looked back down.
" I'm going back to bed, if you don't mind." I said and started to walk to the staircase. "Goodnight Artemis." I heard Carter say before I walked up the stairs. I got to my room and went back to lay on the bed. I couldn't fall asleep, so I laid there and thought about everything. 'How long will I stay here? The longer I'm here, the bigger changes are it that something bad will happen. Why couldn't I just stay home or join my mom trying to stop my dad. I mean I'm the one his after. They could have used me to get him. The way they are doing it, who knows when I can go home.'
Next day
I got some sleep but nothing much. I got up and got ready for the day. I put on some jeans with a white top with a blue jacked on. My hair was up in a high ponytail. I checked my phone if I have got anything from my mom, but nothing. I went down to the living room and sat in the sofa and just looked at what was on the TV. "Did you get some sleep?" Carter asked suddenly from the other end of the sofa. "Yeah a little. Did you?" I asked. "Yeah." He answered back. If I'm going to be staying here might as well, make a new friend. "So, what are you going to do today?" Carter asked me. I shrugged my shoulders. "What is there too do here?" I asked and looked at him. "Not much. Small quiet town." He said as he switched channel. "What do you normally do then?" I asked. "Not much. Read a book, play some games nothing special. You?" He asked. "Read mostly." I said and looked back at the TV.
We didn't talk so much after that. We just watch the TV. Carter tried to make a conversation, but it didn't go on for so long. "Do you want to go out and look at the town?" Carter suddenly asked. I looked at him first, but I answered "Sure."
At the park
We been to some of Carter's favourite places. But the park is my favourite out of them. "So, what's your favourite city in the world?" Carter asked. We been asking each other questioners sins we got to the park. "Oh London." I said. " You?" I asked and looked at him. "I haven't been to many places in the world, but I always wanted to see Rome." He said. "Favourite food?" He asked. " Oh, I don't know. Maybe pizza because you can put whatever on it." I answered. "Same." Carter said. We continued asking each other all day.
