Emily's POV

"EM!!!!! PLEASE TELLL ME YOU ARE GOING TO THE DANCE!!!!!" That is what I hear coming from down the hall from where I was standing, and going through my locker. I knew that voice from anywhere, it was coming from my best friend in the whole world, Katelyn Stephens.

Before I knew it she was right in front of me with her curly brown hair falling in the way of her big blue eyes. We look almost identical besides the fact she is like two inches shorter than me, standing at 5 foot 3 inches tall while I'm a total of 5 foot 5 inches tall. Everyone at school just kinda writes us off as being sisters, which is totally normal since she practically lives at my house anyways, I mean she has her own room and an actual closet full of clothes since she stays at my house for 5 days out of a week.

"Kat, we've already had this discussion, I'm not going to any dances until I have a date." I say, knowing that would shut her up because of what happened with my last boyfriend.

"But Em, you know I love you and I will be you date." She says, pushing the conversation further than it's gone in the last few days when it comes to this god forsaken dance.

She has been pushing me for weeks to go to the Winter Formal, a dance that our school puts on every year. But even being the favored student among the staff at the school, I still refused to attend a dance for the entire fact that for one, I can't dance. And two, I would only go if a guy asked me out to the dance. Not that I have been asked out by like 10 guys since the school announced what day the dance would be.

"Kat, I will THINK about it. And I'm not making any promises." I say finally just giving up. Hearing Kat scream and jump up and down in total excitement .

"Oh look. If it isn't Daddy's Little Girl and the Drama Queen, in their finest moments." I hear a deep voice from behind me say. Those nicknames were completely not true, seeing as my father was never around when I was growing up and Kat is probably the least dramatic girl in this school but only one person has called us by those names, the person being Kyle Lawson.

I turn to see a smug smile on Kyle's face, one that makes him look more attractive than he already is. "Kyle, If you don't watch it, you may end up with a fist to the face." I hear a teasing voice coming from Kyle's best friend, Damon Huntington.

I notice Kat slowly moving to stand behind me. These boys love making our lives a living hell, even though we have done absolutely nothing to deserve it. I hear Kat whisper from behind me, "Em, please make them go away, you know what will happen if they stay to long."

"Kyle. Damon. If you don't leave you will be worrying about having more than a broken jaw to be dealing with and I'm almost positive that you wont be able to go to practice either." I say threatening to beat them up, but the tiny voice tells me that they aren't going to believe the threat. I guess i forgot to mention that Kyle was the star quarterback at our school, with Damon being the varsity captain of the Westville's high school wrestling team.

Kyle laughs, "Oh, princess, you would never hurt me. You just love me too much," running the back of his hand across my cheek, "and I'll see you after school, since your mother asked me to drive you home." He walks away with Damon, leaving me to wonder what in the hell he was talking about.

Katelyn hugs me, "Thank you for getting rid of them. But what was Kyle talking about? Why would your mother ask him to drive you home? And are you gonna go?"

I pull out my Iphone 5s to see that I have text message from my mom.

Mum: Remember that I have that doctor's appointment today and then I have to leave for a business trip. And I asked that nice Lawson boy to make sure you got home safely. I'll be gone for about a three for sure, it may be longer. We will have to see how it goes, but anyways, have fun. Don't do anything stupid and I'll see you when I get home. Love you baby girl.

I sigh, "Kat, it's that business trip my has been talking about. She asked Kyle to make sure I got home safely. That's why that idiot thinks he can put his hands all over me." I go back to my phone and reply to my mum while Kat talks about some rumor going around the school.

Me: Okay. You better not do anything I wouldn't do. And why did you pick Kyle Lawson out of all the people at this school, you KNOW that I hate him, so why pick him? But I'll go along with it since it's pretty much too late to do anything different about it now.

I put my phone away to listen to Kat say something about Kyle and his ex-girlfriend, Casey, and that they broke up because he has "feelings" for someone that he wants to pursue. Oh, I feel sorry for whoever that girl happens to be. Then that stupid voice in the back of my head decides to give its own input, 'What if that girl is you?? What are you gonna do then?'

I feel my phone vibrate so I take it out the pocket of my jeans. Another text my mom.

Mum: Same goes to you, don't do anything I wouldn't do and give the boy a chance, you never know he may end up being the guy you fall in love with.

I laugh as the bell rings, telling the students to go to first period.
