Chapter Two:The Sun

The sun I hear is warm, beautiful, and bright. I've always wanted to see it. But I can't because of who I am.

My name is Luna Arcos and I am a vampire. I am 17 years old. All my life I have wanted to see the sun. But I can't because I will die. It will burn my skin, I'll be in horrible pain, and die an extremely painful death. My mother says that I should never want to seen the sun. It isn't in a vampire's nature. Even though a vampire is never supposed to want this, I do. I want it with all my heart.

My heart doesn't have a beat and I don't have a pulse. I'm also immortal. My skin is like porcelain because no blood runs through my veins. My hair is the color of midnight and darkness for it has never seen sunlight. My eyes are the color of gold with a black rings surrounding them. At my full height I barely reach five feet tall.

Tonight I have my first day of my junior year at the Nightshade Academy in Romania. For vampires, school starts at midnight. I gather my things:

-backpack

-folders

Notebooks

-Silver gun with silver bullets for the werewolves

Here in Romania the werewolves run wild. They're dangerous and unpredictable. They can not be trusted. They are our immortal enemies. Most of them are tall and broad- shouldered, even the females. Their leader's name is Sorin.

Sorin is dark like the night. No one has really ever seen him but the rumors are that he is really only around my age, 17. That he can kill a vampire without any effort at all. Everyone is afraid of him, but no one has ever really met him or have seen him. At the most, glimpses.

I walk out of my blue house and got into my little red convertible to drive to the Academy. I drove into the large parking lot. My best friend Rowan ran up to my window before the car came to a full stop.

Rowan is easily the most attractive guy at the Nightshade Academy. Every girl wants to be with him and every guy wants to be him. Rowan has bright silver hair with glowing red eyes. He towers over my petite five foot frame with his 6'4 frame. Rowan also has an athletic build which makes him seem even bigger than he really is. We have been friends since birth, nothing can separate us. We have always been best friends, nothing more and nothing less. He has had countless number of girlfriends where as I have never even had a boyfriend.

"Hey Luna." he grins.

I give him my brightest smile I reserve only for him, my fangs glinting.

" Hey Rowan, who's your girlfriend of the week?" I laughed.

"Hey, I haven't decided yet, maybe Bloody Becca this week." he joked.

Bloody Becca is the leader of all the girls who wear designer jeans at the Academy. We secretly named her Bloody Becca because all her ex boyfriends said that she wanted to drink their blood. Which is wrong and vampire blood doesn't even taste very good, it's bitter.

"Come on, we're going to be late to our class." I said.

"Really?" he whined, " you're no fun. Why don't we take the day off from this hell-hole and go to the movies?

"Sorry, I can't, my mom said if I skipped one more time I would be grounded for a month!"

"Damn, your mom is no fun at all." he said.

"Yeah, she can be a bitch."

We walked into the Nightshade Academy together.

As soon as we entered the door, our friends, Spencer, Sabrina, and Jonah are waitng for us. They are some of the sweetest people you will ever meet. Together we are like a family, I'm closer to them than my blood-related family.

Spencer is blond with brown eyes and is slender. He is about 6'2 and he dives for the Academy swim team. Sabrina is Spencer's twin, they look very similar. She has shoulder length blond hair with the same brown eyes as Spencer's. The twins are very serious and focused on their education but we all have fun. Jonah has green eyes with dark brown hair, He is the the troublemaker of our group. In the end we always forgive him. He is the type of person you can't stay mad at. Everyone in our group is at least 6 feet tall or more, I'm the only one not, I look like a child next to them.

The minute bell rang and we all said goodbye and hurried to our designated classes. I sat down in my seat next to Rowan. He winked at me and said,

"Watch this!"

He slipped a plastic stake onto the chair in front of us. Stakes are deadly to vampires if real. This seat is where Becca sits. I'm not sure why exactly she sits there because she hates me with all her non-beating dead heart. I'm guessing it is because of Rowan because he hasn't given into her fake black hair and charms like most of the guys at the Academy has.

I snickered as she walked into the room. Tossing her black hair she plopped down into her chair. She let out a high pitched scream.

"Mr. Silvers, someone is trying to kill me!" she said angrily. As she jumped out of her seat.

Mr. Silvers is really sick of all her problems and over-reacting.

"It is not real, Ms. Nightingale. Please return to your seat." he said irritably.

She flounced back to her seat and gingerly sat down making a big show of everything. She turned and glared at me with her dull purple eyes.

"I know it was you, freak!" she whispered quietly.

"Surprise it was me, you slut." Rowan whispered back angrily in my defense.

I smile at him gratefully, I'm not in the mood to deal with her shit. She is such a dumb fuck.

Anyway, I imagine you must be wondering how we see every night and go to the movies. Well, we can see in the dark the way humans can see in the light. I've never met a real human before, but I hear they live in place called the Americas. I know what you're thinking, that's a weird name for a place to be called.

Mr. Silvers is an ok teacher, not the best and not the worst. He is a stout little vampire man with thick gray hair upon his egg shaped head. He teaches the history of Romania. The bell blares in my ear. I'm not having a very good day because of that bitch Becca. Rowan and I leave to go meet up with Spencer, Sabrina, and Jonah.
