Chapter Two: The Moon

The moon is eerily beautiful in its own way, the way it glows in the midnight. It seems to know everything, it is still there watching over us even when the sun comes out. The moon is god to the werewolves and to the Dark World it is like a god to us. We cherish the moon the way the humans cherish the sun.

School is over, Rowan and I walk over to my little car in the school parking lot. We get into the car and Rowan looks very uncomfortable in his seat, he is just way too big for my tiny car. Every Monday after school I go over to Rowan's house and we have a sleep over. We have been doing this for years, as long as we can remember. Our parents think we are way too old to have sleep overs, but we don't really care if we are too old or not.

We pull into his driveway. We both hop out of the convertible and race to the front door. He won, obviously, his legs are like a foot longer than mine legs.

"Ha, beat ya again!" he laughed.

"It's not fair, your legs are twice the length of mine, I'm so small compared to you!" I glared back.

He laughed and leaned down to give me a hug that lifts me off the ground with my feet dangling around his knees.

"That's what I love about you." His eyes were serious and intense.

My breath caught in my throat.

"I love you too, promise me we will always be friends." I said

"I promise, but that isn't what I meant, I want to be more than your best friend." he said.

I stared at him. "What the hell have you been smoking? Why all of a sudden do you want me? We have always been best friends and have been there for each other. Every time you have a girlfriend and you two break up, you leave her and never talk to her again. It's like she never existed. I don't want that, I want to know that you'll always be there for me, that you will always have my back.

"That won't change, Luna. I've loved you since the day I met you, you came over to my house with your mom with blood dribbling down your chin. You were wearing black little overalls and I knew from then on that I love you. I've waited 15 years to finally gather the courage to tell you how I feel about you." His eyes serous.

We stared at each other, lost in our own thoughts. I'm not sure how long we stood there. I'm stunned, never in a million years would I think this would happen, that Rowan wanted more than just being my best friend. I wasn't sure what to do.

"I'm sorry, Luna. I won't mention it again I'll wait until you're ready. Come on, let's go and get something to eat and some blood to drink."

"Sure," I said, trying to act as Rowan hadn't just poured his heart out to me. I loved him but I don't know if I love him as a mate. I will just have to see where my emotions lead me.

We walk into his his house and he goes to the fridge and I go to the cabinets to gather the plates. It's the same routine every Monday for us.
