AN: Warning, this is my first fan fiction that I've ever posted online so it'll most likely be shit. This is kinda a short chapter but I wrote it at three in the morning so don't judge. I hope someone likes it so far.
Mark's POV:
Here it is. The first day of my new life. The first morning in my new home, new town, and soon, new school. Luckily it was Sunday so a had a day to myself before I'd be labeled as just another new kid. I let out a small sigh, slowly lifting myself up with a groan. I rub the sleep out of my eyes, swinging my feet over the edge of my bed and placing them on the floor. I lean forward, my arms resting on my knees as I glance around my new room. It wasn't much. Just a simple little room with a bed covered in a blue comforter, a small, brown dresser overflowing with clothes, a brown night stand holding a lamp and an alarm clock, and black wall covered in gaming posters and a single window. Nothing great I guess but its bigger than my old room, so that's a plus. I let out another sigh before standing up. What to wear today? I pick out a plain black t-shirt, a pair of plain jeans, and my lucky flannel, which used to be my dad's. With my outfit for today sitting on my bed, I stare down at the flannel. It's been about two years since I've last seen him. Two years since he past away. He had died of cancer when I was fourteen, leaving my mother, Tom, and I devastated. My couldn't afford the house after all the hospital bills, considering it was just her working. That's why we moved. We managed for as long as we could but mom was overworking herself, getting three different jobs just to keep the house for a little longer. It wasn't easy and I doubt anything will get any better. Our lives will never be the same without dad. I run my hand through my hair and shake my head, trying to push the thoughts away before getting dressed. Pulling on my pants over my boxers and my shirt over my bare chest, I hurry down the hall, slipping the flannel on before putting my shoes on and heading out the door with the little money I had in my pocket. What should I do today? I walk down the street, the sound of each footstep coming together in a steady rhythm. My thoughts wonder until I realize I'm in town, looking around at all the little shops placed side by side. Considering I only have about ten dollars, I decide to stop somewhere for breakfast first. Well, maybe just a coffee. I look across the street to find a small little cafe. Hurrying across the street, I walk inside, startling myself with the bell above the door. I sigh, looking around. It was a peaceful little place. Not too busy, but just enough people where it's quiet but not silent. The interior looked like the insides of a cabin, the floors and walls made of wood. I look around at the people inside, noticing the usual old couples and business man, but there was also a group of teens sitting in the corner. One hand short blonde hair and he a large smile on his face. He was speaking rather loudly with a sort of high pitched Swedish accent. Sitting next to him was a pretty brunette with long curly hair and casual makeup on. She was looking at the Swedish man with a loving smile. They must be a couple. But the guy sitting across from him. He was different. He had bright green hair, skull gauges, and had a blue hoodie on. I couldn't see his face or anything, just the back off his head. He seemed interesting. I wonder if they go to the school I'm going to. I look back over at the other two, realizing that they had both noticing me staring and we're now looking over at me. I blushed out of embarrassment, bowing my head before looking away and hurrying over the the counter to order my coffee. After ordering, I sit down, making sure I wasn't too close to the group of teens. Great Mark. Way to be awkward. I face palm myself, mentally kicking myself for staring. They probably think I'm some sort of weirdo. I sigh, sipping on my coffee. Today's already off to a bad start. After about ten minutes, the group stands up, the three chatting and giggling as they head out. They pass by me, the two guys laughing at a joke as the girl silently follows with a smile on her face. I wish I was with them. Instead of just sitting here by myself. I frown, watching them exit, the bell echoing throughout the cafe. It must be nice to have friends. I mean, I had friends back home but I had to leave them behind. I sigh, getting up and leaving as well. Might as well look around before calling it a day. It's not really fun going out by yourself anyway.
