One.
The smell of the North Shore in Auckland, wafted into the air, as I sniffed the warm feeling of Auckland Weather. Auckland was my getaway, I would come to this house, to get away and relax, with all the problems I have. All the time, I would get bullied, but other than that I would be at home, doing homework, or studying for school. And trying to get a job in North Shore.
"Quinnella, Are you out here?" I heard my mothers aching voice, from the porch. I was looking down at my veiw, as the house was on a ledge. My head turned to face her, her face so pale, so lifeless. Her blue eyes, matching her small cardigan wrapped around her shoulders.
"Yeah, Im out here." My feet touch the floor, as I walk over to her and help her sit down. I place a hand on the back of her back and one holding her hand, I gently sit her down on a comfortable seat outside. Her hands held mine, as she struggled to sit down properly.
"Have you thought about your schooling choices, Quinn." She said, her voice barely audible, she has been on life support for ten years now, she slowly struggles to live, at night I have to stay with her until she goes to sleep, then I wait ten minutes, then go to sleep. Even though she is alright, I still can't get sleep knowing she could die any minute.
"Yes, Mum. I'm thinking of becoming a Publisher, or possibly an accountant." I shrug my shoulders on the last option, I have been looking at that for awhile now, but I still don't know.
A sigh leaves her lips, as I feel her shoulders slump under my hands. She shakes her head and detaches her hands from mine, gently placing them in her lap.
"Good, Good. Now on a serious topic," Her head turns away, I could only imagine what she is staring at, thinking about. I see her eyes squint at the sun set. orange and pink spilled accross the sky, the most beautiful thing I have witnessed.
"What is it?" I ask. Standing straight then streching from the previous position, I was in.
Her head soon faces me once again, and her shoulders once again slump, A sigh leaves her lips as she shakily rubs her eyes.
"As you know, that I am on life support.." She trails, I know exactly where this is leading too, I don't want to talk about it, its too soon.
"No, mum. I don't want to talk about it, Lets talk about how much I have improved in Maths, another straight E." I try to change the subject, but its no use, because she still continues.
"No, Quinn. I might not be alive to tell you the next time," She says, with a hint of humour in there, I sigh in defeat as I nod for her to proceed.
"And I could die any moment, but I want to tell you that I am no longer living here, with you. But I am living in a retirement home, a rest home, for elderly." She can't possibly do that, she is only thirty five, Don't you have to be like over fifty? like well over fifty.
"You're only thirty five." That came out harsher than I expected, but for now I didn't care, I mean its my mother for God's Sake. I will be living with myself, The thought of being alone haunted me.
As that was the one feeling, I didn't plan on feeling.
"There is a teen, that is going to accompany you, She is your age, but has a totally different personality. She goes to college, but she hangs out with the wrong people." She shakes her head in disbelief, as she hides it with a small chuckle.
So basically, I am going to be living with a random girl, who hangs out with the wrong people? That is totally not weird at all, Please note sarcasm.
"So I'm living with a Random named..." I trail off, hoping to find her name.
"Ruby."
"Named Ruby, who hangs out with the wrong people, we are opposite, yet she is living with me?" I ask, stunned. She nods in amusement, Her small hand covering her mouth as a laugh starts to lighten up the atmosphere.
"You will be kind to her even though she has straight F's and you have straight A's"
"What does grades have to do with my personality?"
"It doesn't. I'm just saying."
"Ok." I mumble, before walking into the two story house, closing the sliding door. I need to clear my head, I don't know when she is moving, but I hope it's not today or tonight.

"Quinn right?" Ruby -I think- says, As she walks straight past me, throwing her bags onto my favourite chair, a red velvet circle chair, that hangs from the ceiling. I give her a dirty look before closing the door and accompanying her in the living room.
"Yes, and you must be Ruby?" I eyed her up and down, her hair was ombre; Black and blonde, her features were actually quite surprising, she had a few peircings, a lip ring, and a nose peircing. She had her arms tattooed, basically you couldn't see her arm flesh, as they were covered in pointless tattoos.
"You are correct," She smirks, She sprawls herself onto the blue leather couch, kicking off her chuck taylors and Interlocking her hands, before putting them under her head, She was actually beautiful, but the tattoos had just explained her personality.
"Don't worry, I'm not a bitch," She laughed, I'm guessing at the look on my face. I am not one for the first impressions, but she just had to have one.
"It's no big deal, anyway we have four bedrooms, two downstairs and two upstairs. Feel free to pick one, While mine is upstairs to the left," I turn on my heel and walk upstairs.
Why is she even living with me? I don't even know her, yet I am letting her stay. I promised Mum I would be nice, so here I am trying to be nice.

"So, what do you want to be?"
"A lawyer, you?"
"Publisher or a Accountant."
"Oo, go for accounting."
"Why?" I ask, she shrugs and looks back down at her phone, scrolling up and down, her face lighting up from the small light provided from, her phone. I wonder how Mum is doing, Should I call her?
"Oh, Quinn. There is a party, accross the street."
"And you are telling me why?"
"I. want you to come with me,"
"No.. no way, I have studies, and I need to prepare my notes for tomorrow, the first day I go to school, then I need to ir-"
"Then you need to calm down and have a little fun."
"Im sorry, but I am going to bail on you."
"Please, it's only for a few drinks, my mates would be there, they are nice. I promise."
I thought about it, one night wouldn't hurt. I do need to have fun, once in awhile, and maybe going with her would be my chance at finding someone, But I already have a boyfriend. I could just tell her I have plans with him. I do need to catch up with him. But then odds went against me, and my mind spoke for me.
"Fine."

"So, this is Libby, Zayn, Niall, Tessa and Harry." She introduced me to her friends, as They all waved to me but Harry, I easily remembered his name, because of how difficult he looked, his curls just flopping around, as his jeans were so tight you could see the out lining of his phone.
"Hey, Quinn right?"
"Yes, how do you know?"
"You're the smartest in school"
"School hasn't even started?"
"Previous schools," Libby smiled, I smiled back and sat down in between Libby and Zayn, while Ruby sat next to Harry. I followed her eyes, as they were eyeing Zayn down, I smirked and laughed inside. My hand went over my mouth to prevent any laughs.
"So, nerd." Harry said, I turned my attention to him, as he smirked.
"What are you doing at a party like this? No nerds allowed." Her laughed, as I heard a laugh from the blonde next to him.
"There is no-"
"There shouldn't be a sign, for No Nerds, you should know that, aren't you the smart one." He laughed again, before standing up, his drink in his hands. his eyes eye me up and down before stalking off with Niall behind him.
