"Where were you?" You ask Elijah, your husband, as soon as he enters the front door.
He stills and softly curses under his breath. "What are you doing out of bed, Y/N?" He asks, his eyes finding you in the dark entryway.
"When I noticed you weren't in bed, I got a little worried. I tried calling you but you didn't pick up. I called Rebekah and she didn't know where you were. She told me to just wait it out and that you'd come home." You explain.
You place your hands on your hips. "So I ask again, where were you?" You repeat again, this time more firmly.
"I was nowhere." Elijah mutters, running his hand through his hair.
"You were not 'nowhere'. Stop lying to me!" You exclaim, tear coming to your eyes.
"Y/N, I'm not-" He starts to say.
"You were out with Hayley, weren't you?" You choke out, your heart slowly, agonizingly breaking.
Elijah falls silent. He bows his head and shakes it. "No." He whispers.
"Yes, yes, you were. I'm not stupid, Elijah. I see the way you two look at each other." You state, before burying your face in your hands and sobbing.
"How could you cheat on me?" You weep.
"Y/N, I'm not cheating." He lies quietly, looking down at his shoes.
"Yes! Yes, you are!" You shout, staring at him, breathing heavily. "I trusted you with everything. You were the love of my life. How could you betray me like this?"
Elijah breaks. "Y/N, I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" He cries. "Please forgive me, please. I can't lose you. I love you!" He sobs.
"Stop lying!" You cry, hiccuping on a sob. "If you really loved me, you wouldn't have cheated on me in the first place."
"We can go to counseling. We can figure this out!" Elijah exclaims.
"Have you heard nothing I've said? No, Elijah, you've blown it with me. I never want to see you again." You grit out.
Elijah stares at you hard, tears streaming down his cheeks. He suddenly turns on his heel and walks out the door, slamming it behind him.
Your chin quivers and you stumble backwards against the stairs. You rest your elbows against your knees and bury your face in your hands, sobbing.
---
You wake up to the sound of someone consistently ringing your doorbell. You roll out of the bed and run down the stairs. You rip the door open and there's Rebekah looking worried.
"Oh, Y/N." She breathes with relief, walking into your house and hugging you tightly.
You hug her back. "Rebekah, what's wrong?" You ask.
"It's Elijah." She states.
You look back at her and clench your jaw. "What about him?" You ask coldly.
"Last night he went on a killing rampage." She whispers, tears in her eyes. "There so many—so many dead." She breathes. Your eyes widen in horror and your hand clasps over your mouth.
"I found him before he could kill more. He kept muttering that it was his fault and that you wouldn't take him back." She explains.
"Oh, no..." You whisper.
"What happened last night?" Rebekah asks.
"I found out he was cheating on me with Hayley." You reply in a daze.
"What!" She gasps.
You nod. "I told him I wouldn't take him back... then he killed all those people." You choke out. "It's all my fault."
Rebekah hugs you again. "Y/N, this is not your fault. This is Elijah's and Elijah's alone. You did nothing wrong. This is on Elijah, okay? Just Elijah." She states. You nod and cry into her shoulder as she pats your back, frowning.
[THE END] I hope you liked it!
