Chapter 1: The Rose and Note

Ezra's P.O.V

   Yes! Today is the first day of summer! No tests, no bullies but there is homework.......to have the best summer ever!

   Me, mom, and dad planned to go out to eat at Pizza Hut tomorrow. The reason why it wasn't today was because dad had to work tonight. I'm spending my time reading a book called The Maze Runner. Sabine told me to read it and when she comes over we're going to watch the movie. The book is very cool and I'm so engrossed in the plot. Until someone knocks on the door.

   Mom opens it and comes in. "How's your first day of summer?" She asked, moving some strands of hair out of my face. I smiled and said, "good, I really like this book,". Mom smiled, "then maybe you should read the rest of the series". My eyes widen with joy, "there's a series!". She laughed at my enthusiasm, "yes there is. We'll go to the library and look for them". I nodded my head and was about to read again, but mom took the book and set it down on a stand. "You can read some more tomorrow but it's really late and I don't want to deal with a grumpy teen," she said. "But it is summer, I can stay up as long as I want," I said probably. "Well not at one in the morning," she said and left the room. I looked at the clock and it was a little after one in the morning. I put some comfy clothes and laid down in bed drifting off to sleep.

Hera's P.O.V

   I went back to my room and changed into my pjs. I got under the covers and laid there thinking of baby names. Me and Kanan wanted to be a surprise of the gender until its birth. 'If it's a boy, maybe Weston or Michael or Eddie?' I thought, 'If it is a girl, maybe Teresa or Sandy or Utah?'. I smiled and rubbed my stomach as I closed my eyes.

Kanan's P.O.V

   I had to work late tonight and just arrived home at about 1:30 A.M. I went up to the door and went inside the house. I set my things down and went into the kitchen to have a little snack. A couple minutes later, the door bell rings and I stop eating my snack. 'Who in the world is up this late? I thought. I tiredly rubbed my eyes and opened the door.

   No one was there. "Oh, I get it. A funny first day of summer, ditch doorbell prank," I muttered, "real fun-". I stopped in the middle of what I was going to say when I saw something on the mat. A red rose and a small note. I picked the two objects up and opened the note. The note says, "roses are bloody red...". Was this supposed to be a threat or a love note? A chill was sent down my spine. I looked around the dark area and went back inside with a creepy feeling that this is just the beginning.

   I went upstairs to peek and see if Ezra's ok. I open Ezra's door with a creak and see a peaceful boy sleeping in bed. I closed the door and headed to me and Hera's room. I hide the rose and note under the bed. Then I changed into something comfy and climbed into bed with a nagging feeling. I shook it off and fell into a nice slumber.

Unknown P.O.V

   "You will be mine Caleb Dume. Even if you don't realize it yet. You will remember me and your family will be a forgotten memory," I said. I held a picture of Caleb's family and a pair of scissors. I put the scissors where I wanted them and got to work...
