«salt due to height»
You stopped walking and froze on the spot; a singular thought lingered in your mind, wanting to get itself out.
"You're tall."
Mingyu looked up from his phone and shifted his attention to you, beaming at your stature from above. "Yeah?" He chuckled, "and you're pretty short."
"Nah," you replied, cheeks puffed up in annoyance, "I'm average height. I just happen to be shorter than you."
He turned off his phone then reached out for your hand, entwining it within his fingers. "Is that so?" Mingyu grinned as he measured your height against his side profile. You fell just below his shoulders. "Mhm," he affirmed, "that's definitely short."
You frowned. It wasn't everyday that you get called out for your size, but your surroundings just seemed to get bigger whenever you were with your boyfriend. It felt odd.
"Mingyu." His head perked up immediately upon hearing your call. You mustered up the most serious expression you could pull off then gazed directly into his eyes. Your partner couldn't help but grin.
"You're so adorable," he chuckled as he outstretched his hand to ruffle your hair.
"Stop!" You demanded, "I was gonna say something."
"What is it?"
Your brows furrowed together. "You're not taking me seriously, are you?"
Your boyfriend continued walking in silence, raising suspicion on your end. You cleared your throat to remind him about your inquiry. "Huh?" He clucked, "of course, love."
"Kim Mingyu. . ." you snarled in response. His eyes widened upon realizing what he did.
"Sorry, (Name)," he pleaded, "I was just thinking about some stuff."
"Yeah," you mimicked, "stuff." Mingyu began sweating nervously.
"Jagiya. . ." he averted his gaze to a nearby cafe, "why don't we go and get some ice cream—"
"Yah, Kim Mingyu, don't tell me you're just going to change the subject like that!"
"(Name), please, you know I don't like it when you call me by my full name," he pouted innocently, "just call me 'oppa' instead—"
His train of thought was briefly interrupted by a lamp post. Mingyu staggered backwards upon hitting his head against the gleaming metal beam, spewing out words of protest then massaging his forehead carefully right after. You laughed.
"That's what you get for being so tall."
A look of distaste appeared on his face, "I don't think height has anything to do with lamp posts on the sidewalk."
"Just let me believe I'm winning this," you uttered.
"What exactly are you trying to win here?" He chuckled, "my heart? If so, it's already yours, darling."
You chortled then reached up as high as you could to pat him on the head. Mingyu subtly crouched for your sake, a kind gesture that went unnoticed under your radar. He smiled upon seeing your gleeful expression. Your boyfriend inhaled, "this is why it's really difficult, (Name)."
"Huh?" You blinked, "what do you mean by that?"
"I do take you seriously," he replied, "it's just that I get distracted by you sometimes, it's ironic."
The uncertain expression you exhibited told him you didn't quite understand what he meant. Mingyu stayed silent and pulled your body closer to his, looping his arm around your back, eventually resting a hand on your shoulder. "(Name)," he called out.
"Yeah?"
"Why are you so beautiful?" He commented.
"Why are you so incredibly cheesy?" You contended with darkened cheeks.
He grinned sheepishly, "is that a bad thing?"
You shook your head and smiled. Tranquility engulfed the atmosphere as you two strolled side by side, enjoying the pleasant day and having good vibes. Then you abruptly stopped in the middle of the sidewalk, causing Mingyu to halt as well. He looked at you with worry.
"What's wrong?" He asked. You slowly raised your gaze to match his.
"You. . . You're really good at a lot of things."
Mingyu exhaled.
"Oh, no. . ."
