Who Are You?

I look into his eyes, his deep blue eyes. Beau is a sixteen-year-old guy that I have had feelings for, for a while now. I am unsure if he feels the same towards sixteen-year-old me, but I will probably never know.

You see, as a girl, I really shouldn't like him. It is against the rules. According to a video about the history of our president, he was elected twenty years ago and when he was elected he got rid of any sexual relationships with the opposite sex. Apparently it was supposed to prevent sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies.

According to the video he sits in the rainbow house watching over us with the security cameras he placed around the city to keep us safe. So, if I was to be open about my feelings it probably wouldn't end well.

"Astrid! Earth to Astrid." My best friend, Charlotte, shouts to get my attention. I give her an apologetic look and start to talk but I am cut off by the siren, signalling the end of class. I quickly pack up my things and put them in my bag, before walking out the door with Charlotte. Once we have gotten to her house we head up to her room and I plonk down onto her bed. She offers to get me something to eat but I decline and lay back on the bed.

"Charlotte... I have a crush on Beau." I say, as I have had enough of keeping it to myself. She looks at me with her eyebrows raised,

"We don't have a girl in our class called Beau.. Oh, wait..." Realisation suddenly hits her and I can see the cogs in her brain working away. Eventually she sits down next to me and puts her hand on my shoulder.

"I understand, I am so glad you told me. I shall keep it a secret." She smiles and pulls me in for a hug. I happily oblige and hug her back. We then start to gossip about our classmates until it is time for me to go home.

** Next day**

I awaken to the sound of my alarm, time to get ready for school. As I am getting ready I have decided to devise a plan to see if Beau does like me back. I pull out a blank page from my diary and write a note saying:

'If you feel the same way I do, meet me at St. Georges at 2.'

I will now find a way to slip it to him at school today. I quickly stuff the paper in my side pocket and run down the stairs and into the kitchen. I go over to the meal station and tap the food screen. I then pick my name and enter the time before finalising the information. The door beeps and I open it to find a tray of my morning nutriment.

** At school**

I sit down next to Charlotte and get ready for class, when the teacher arrives she is holding a pile of papers. Perfect, I can volunteer to hand them out. After she addressed the class, she automatically gave me the papers top hand out. Instantly I stand up and start to walk around the class, handing them out. When I get to Beau I sneakily get the letter from my pocket and slip it with the sheet of paper. After i have handed the papers out I sit back down next to Charlotte.

"Okay kids, today we will be learning about a different topic. We will be learning about the awful people who have chosen to defy our much loved president. Yes, today we will be learning about the fringe."

Instantly I look up to the teacher. The fringe? There are people who are actually standing up against the president? For the rest of the lesson I am one hundred percent tuned in.

** Two PM**

I walk into the abandoned building which our generation has dubbed St. Georges. I am standing around for a good five minutes before I hear footsteps. I look towards the sound, to see him. Beau came. When he sees me, he picks up his speed and before I know it, he is in front of me. We stand there, staring into each other's eyes, for two minutes before he leans in, places both of his tough-skinned hands on either side of my face and plants his lips on mine. I slowly edge into the kiss and we continue to kiss until a strange thought appears in my head. I break away from the kiss and start to speak,

"Hey, I think we should try to find the fringe. It is obvious that we don't fit in with society."

Beau looks at me and smiles,

"Sounds like a brilliant idea! How would we get past the gates though?"

I think for a moment and Charlotte comes to mind,

"I have an idea. Okay, just meet me here tomorrow at the same time."

** Next day **

"Thank you so much for doing this Charlotte."

I look at Charlotte and she just smiles,

"Of course I would, anything for my best friend."

We enter St. Georges to find Beau already inside. He looks shocked when he sees Charlotte but it subsides when he sees my clam face. For the next ten minutes we devise a plan to get to the fringe.

** Half an hour later **

We quietly make our way to the gate as sneakily as possible. So far no one has spotted us. Once we get as close as we can, Charlotte jumps out from our hiding spot and in to the view of the guards. The guards spot her straight away and start walking over to her, Beau and I quickly move from our hiding spot, the other way, then start to run. I am running so fast I have lost track of Beau, but I don't stop. Once I get over the gate I look back and see Beau limping, he must have been shot. I try to find Charlotte but I can't see her anywhere. All of a sudden I see her jump up and knock over a guard. Go Charlotte! Beau's pace has quickened and he finally reaches the gate. I help him over and we start to run but I stop and look back at Charlotte, she has been caught. Two guards are holding onto her and dragging her away.

I go to run back over the gate but Beau grabs me and pulls me away. He gives me a look that says 'you can't do anything' and then grabs a hold of my hand. I nod and then we start running again. We are well away from our city so we sit down and I look over to Beau,

"What are we going to do now?"

He smiles at me and replies,

"Try to find others, but if we can't we at least have each other and that's all I could ever ask for."
