Chapter 3
I sighed in relief at the alarm signaling our dismissal. I quickly gathered my things and made a beeline for the door before any of those delinquents had a chance to talk to me. Like they would, anyways.
The thickness of the outside air hit me like a brick wall, suffocating me. I didn't mind, though. It was an improvementfrom the arctic atmosphere of the disciplinary center. I fished my keys from my pocket and unlocked my car, tossing my things into the back.
As I adjusted my rearview mirror, I noticed a mess of scarlet curls in my backseat. The owner of the curls popped up, making me yelp. "What in the freaking world are you doing in my car?! Howdid you even get in here?!" The elf smiled evilly.
"It's called your passanger door was unlocked."
"But I barely know you. How did you know this was my car?"
"I saw you get out of it this morning, the same time I got out of my car."
"Why are you even in here?!"
"To scare you. Your fear makes me smile."
I couldn't believe this girl! "Are you freaking insane?!"
She smirked. "Yes, yes I am."
"You are such a freak!"
"Look who's talking, Mr. Ten-Feet-Tall."
I was pretty sensitive about my height. "I'm 6'5", thank you!"
"Ooh! Someone's defensive!"
"Get out!"
"Make me."
I didn't even think before acting. My anger lead me to open the door, march around the back of my truck, and drag her out by the wrist.
"Hey! Let me go! That hurts!"
I heard a beastly growl escape my throat, making the girl's eyes widen. Her scared expression forced me back into reality, and I released her. Before she could say another word, I got into my pick-up and drove off.
-------------------------
The front door flung open as I barged in. I stormed up the stairs, throwing my things in the corner of my room. I snatched a towel from my hamper and headed for the bathroom. I stepped into the sower and heated the water to nearly scalding. Closing my eyes, I let my anger be washed away by the water.
Once again dressed, I flopped down on my bed and let out a sigh. Where had normalcy gone? First losing Dad, then Mom getting sick, now this. My eyes stung as the memories all came rushing back. Why did she haveto show up in my life? She made me fear myself, put me in a fit of blind rage. I'd never been so infuriated in my life.
I finally felt the effects of constant frustration taking a toll on me. All energy had leftmy body long ago. I had almost nodded off when I felt a presence in my room. A gentle hand stroked my hair. I looked up to meet my mom's weary eyes and smiled weakly.
"Rough day?" I nodded. "Wanna talk about it?"
I didn't wanna add any more stress to my mother's life, so I shook my head no. She smiled, then left the room, where I eventually drifted off to sleep.

A/N: So, I'm kind of disappointed in myself. My chapters haven't been too long, and I was hoping they'd be longer than this. I guess they just feel longer when I write them out on paper....
Anyways, what'd ya think? Let me know your feelings on this story. I'm open to any suggestions you may have, and constructive criticism is always welcome. Hope you enjoyed it!
