Sword and the Wise

A tale of a Goblin, a snake and a poltergeist

Albian used to live in forest near by the city of India long time ago. Unfortunately he was a goblin, as goblins were believed as creatures but in simple words, he didn’t mind. He didn’t like to spend the time with his lot, whenever his companions used to celebrate a memorial day; he just used to spend his time wondering in the forest. He had come by many beings through his wondering, including wolfs stags, dwarfs and fairies. Well when these creatures first saw Albian, they got scared because they knew the equisetic nature of Goblins but when they came by the strange kind behavior of Albian. They started liking him. Albian knew what misery was come on the animals and creature to whom his fellows used to attack to take away the food, so what he used to do is to steal back what his companions used to get from other beings and return them to their owners.

The cruel king of goblins, Jaein, noticed that the food treasure was getting lesser as they used to steal a lot; he doubted either any of the goblin is eating a lot, or it was being stole by someone they didn’t had track of. So he contacted a Fillies the poltergeist. Eyes like large oranges, teethes like sharp small knives and his smile used to stretch extra ordinary towards his cheeks which used to give him a scary look , but still we are aware that poltergeist are cowards, and Jaein didn’t chose Fillies to search and fight the thief , but to spy. So one night after the goblins returned from a battle won from the fairies, it was normal for Albian, just to take the cart of food back to their owners. But he was not aware of a poltergeist. So when at night the goblin went back into their caves to sleep, Albian took the cart and started walking, soundlessly towards the forest. Fillies was using his supernatural power to hover behind him , he could have just screamed or had gone straight to king but he waited and wanted to see if that goblin eats that all or take it back to its owner.

Now the goblin carrying the cart with poltergeist behind him were in the very heart of the forest, at that time poltergeist spoke, “ You know , it is really bad to steal what’s already stole” , this made Albian jump. He looked around and saw nothing, after few seconds Fillies removed his invisibility revealing his hovering body with a very large nasty smile.

“Oh Fillies! What a pleasant surprise” gasped Albian, who knew Fillies due to his cruel pranks towards stags. “I wonder if you are here to have a share of some food from this cart, but I’m sorry it doesn’t belongs to me either”. “It belongs to the great king right?” exhaled Fillies, his cruel smile never faded as he spoke. It took time to understand that the poltergeist was spying him, as he knew his king always had chose Fillies for a lumpy job. “I hope you’re not going to stop me, are you?” said Albian trying to sound strong. “Not I you pass the hook of the cart to me and I’ll take the food back to the goblin’s mane without mentioning a single word that I saw you carrying it away”. This made Albian laugh, “since when have you been so trustworthy Fillies?” Fillies smile turned into a horrible face, he hated whenever he was accused to be less trustworthy. He picked a heavy stone from the ground and spoke, “give me the cart you filthy goblin!!” But before Albian had said something more interesting, they heard a strong hissing sound from behind a dark tree.

“What’s thatss withss you twosss?” said a voice of Granagan the big snake and he erupted from behind the dark tree. “Oh good gracious would any one let me take that cart back?! “ cried Fillies, “try your best ghosty!” Albian replied back, “Enoughffff….” Granagan was so loud that his voice echoed through the forest.

“Lets mess know whatss the matterssss” hissed the Granagan. And Albian broke off what his companions were doing, and by time Fillies was injecting that the food treasure was won by war, now the question came who would take the cart away with out having a fight. Granagan was believed to be a wise and clever snake of all among the earth, he never used to fight, he just used to settle things with practical explanation. So after a long time of thinking Granagan said, “It isss simple, we will passss through a normal testsss which will revealsss that with whomss will the cartsss go”. “There is only one cart Granagan” Fillies tried to sound funny but Granagan told Albian to search for a sword behind the tree and leave the cart at his custody, at first Albian hesitated then he left cart where it was  started searching for the sword in the darkness filled pathway behind the tree.

“You seemsss quiet loyal, you cans take the cartsss away” hissed Granagan and the poltergeist without taking time to understand the situation; he picked the hook of the cart and started bobbing towards the goblin’s cave direction. “Thank you snake, and once again, it’s only a singular cart” and with a wail of laughter he went on his way back. Now you would be thinking that the snake did not have a likeness for the good side but you will understand why Granagan let the cart go with Fillies.

When Fillies was on the way back to the caves he heard a rustle behind, and even he was a ghost, that frightened him. He looked around and saw a silver gleaming sword lying on the ground. He thought he would take the sword to the king so that his reward could get valuable, as he picked the sword he felt warmth in his hand. Without understanding what that meant he started stuffing the sword in the cart but then he saw fresh large apples on the tree beneath which the sword had been lying, he decided if he took more fruits with him the goblins will be very much thankful for his act of kindness and he will be treated more generously and he started cutting down the apples from the tree with the same sword. He was busy cutting down the fruits and stuffing them into carts when he heard something was passing by and he used his power to be invisible.

Now the funny thing is Fillies thought he was invisible but the sword he was holding was enchanted to make a ghost or a person more visible. Just in time a herd of wolves came by the cart, they were discussing the massive goblin attacks with great fury, at first they surrounded the cart examining the fruits then one of them said, “Hey! This looks like cart of the fairies”. They turned to look around and saw poltergeist completely lost in his thought, “you think you are stronger to face us huh?” said the head of the herd. Fillies took time to understand the head was actually addressing him, “look I didn’t stole it!” said Fillies, his voice trembling as he heard the teeth grunts of wolves and within second the herd charged on the poltergeist, biting him into pieces. They dragged his body back towards where they came from leaving the cart and sword at their same places.

Later in the story Albian found the sword where Fillies had left it and also found the cart, he safely took the cart to the fairy kingdom and gave them back their food. Fairies offered Albian to stay with them forever and Albian accepted, he was treated like a king. Wolves charged towards the goblin caves, killing many of the goblins and forcing the rest to fleet away forever from the forest. All was good in the end, goblins gone, Albian was made the king, the poltergeist died and you came by the end of this tale. I guess story echoes a moral, which I think is for Fillies.

That a bird in hand is better than two in the bush, If only he hadn’t stop to take the sword and some fruits with him, he could have been alive till the end of this tale.
