It was about 6 o'clock in the morning when Emma began crying again. She had been bawling all night long recklessly, and Marinette took the baby in her arms and rocked her until she stopped crying and started to get sleepy. "I'm so sorry, baby," the mother whispered, tears rimming her eyes. "I didn't want this to happen. You know I didn't. I'm so sorry your first day here had to be like this. I'm so sorry I had to make your father leave. I just need you to be safe. I just need you to grow up with a good influence. I am so sorry." Salty tears dripped onto Emma's face and she opened her emerald eyes and smiled, showing off her gummy mouth, as if saying, I forgive you.
Marinette woke up from a deep sleep a few hours later, the bright sun burning through the hospital windows. As much as it surprised her, Emma hadn't cried since she had rocked her to sleep and as she peered into her daughter's crib, she saw the baby girl awake in her bed.
"Good morning, my little Buggie," she whispered, picking up the cooing baby. Emma giggled and touched her mother's nose with her fingertips. "Today we get to leave the hospital and go home!" Marinette tried to act normal for her child, but it suddenly dawned on her that Adrien would be home.
A nurse walked in and checked Marinette's blood pressure and heart rate. "Hello, Mrs. Dupain Chang. You're heart seems to be beating just fine and the baby seems healthy as can be. When do you plan on heading back to your house?"
"I'll be packing now - don't worry, I won't be here long."
"Alright. Have a good day, Miss."
"You too."
The nurse walked back outside and Tom and Sabine peered into the doorway. "May we come in, Sweetie?"
Marinette nodded.
They came into the room and instantly gathered around Emma. "My dear, where is your husband, Marinette?" Sabine asked, glancing around the hospital room for a glimpse of Adrien.
The mother froze. "I - I - I- he went to the bathroom," she excused. "He won't be long."
It was strange - after everything Marinette had confessed to her parents, she couldn't wind up the courage to tell them that Adrien had cheated on her. They had just supported her so much - even though they were not too excited to have their daughter marry Adrien, her parents had learned to except him and love him like their own son. But now all their efforts to warm up to him had been crushed down, and all the guilt suddenly fell onto Marinette because she had been the one who begged them to except Adrien. And now she was the one who was turning around and pretending he wasn't apart of her life anymore.
A few minutes had passed. The hospital room was neat and tidy and the Dupain Chang family was ready to leave. There was just one thing: where was Adrien?
"Did he happen to stop by somewhere, Sweetheart?" Tom asked and stroked his daughter's dark hair back, her blue eyes watering as soon as they were uncovered.
"No...," Marinette said with a shaky voice. She looked back and forth between her parents. Their eyes had narrowed the slightest and their bodies had tensed from frustration.
"Darling, are you not telling us something?" Sabine said.
And all of a sudden, the tears came spilling out and her sobs could be heard from outside the room. And just like her tears, Marinette spilled them the truth.
