I'm scared of the ocean, but I'm also fascinated by its beauty. Somewhat accidentally, I made myself a safety charm for going in the water. I haven't experimented much with this process, but this is just how it worked for me. It seems to be pretty effective to me.
Materials:
Bracelet or band that can be worn as an ankletProcess:
Procure your anklet. Make sure it can be worn and removed safely from your ankle, and that it is snug enough that it won't fall of your foot while swimming. My anklet is a slightly stretchy woven beaded bracelet. Blue is a good color to use, for water of course. It should be generally suitable for getting wet.As a warning, this process requires you to go in water without magic protection at least once. Put the anklet on one of your feet, and safely make contact with the water. If you're uncomfortable going into the water, I would encourage you to stand foot deep in the water if you can.
The anklet won't do much this first time, but its contact with the water helps "program" the piece of jewelry for protection in water. Focus your mind on the feeling of the band around your ankle. You have control over this leg, you have control to protect your whole body. You are safe. Once this is done, you can wear the anklet out of the water if you like, but not for too long, for it might lose its association with swimming.
The next time you know you're going to swim, put the anklet on again with your swimsuit. If you can feel its effectiveness after one non-magical use, then the process is complete. If you don't feel that it has accessed its full potential to protect you, then thats ok, you probably just need to submerge your feet in the water a couple more times on separate occasions. Take it slow if you must, eventually you will come to trust your jewelry.
