Prologue
*AN- Sorry this is basically an informational chapter but just bear with me, everything will get a lot more exciting soon! Plus if you skip out on this chapter things might get a little confusing with all the different terms I came up with... Enough of my rambling! Enjoy the chapter!*
"Since the beginning of time, the elements have put trust in seemingly normal humans and given them their powers to protect the element and the Chosen One until death. My mother and her mother before her have risked a lot in order to keep their elements safe and I am proud to have the privilege of taking over the element my mom had until she passed when I was born. That is why I accept full responsibility for my powers over Water and Ice," I declare. I spent weeks trying to memorize the speech my mom and her mom before her had to say. Well, with different back stories but the same basic idea of declaring your responsibility.
A tiara made of crystallized water is placed gently on my soft golden curls. A huge smile lights up my face. I could not be happier.
Wait a second! If you're going to see my story, you need to see it unfold from the beginning, complete with history of Chosen Ones and my back story. I am Amelia Jones, Lia for short. I am the Chosen One for Water and Ice for my generation.
~~~
When I was born, my mother had passed. She was becoming ill, as were all the other Chosen Ones of her generation, and had her life ended short so the element could pass on to me when I was born so I could keep the element safe.
My mother knew what had to happen when she had a child as a Chosen One but she still accepted the responsibility with great honor. As long as the elements are kept safe in the Elemental Realm that I live in, the elements are safe in every other Realm, like the one Earth and the Milky Way belongs to called the Common Realm. As you can see, those are some pretty big shoes to fill...
The Chosen Ones, a bunch of common people and gifted people (people with minor abilities such as psychic powers and other mental abilities) live in the Elemental Realm, a Realm much like the Common Realm with all the advances in technology, art, music, architecture, etc., but with more gifted people.
When everything was created and the elements were formed, common people were chosen to keep the power of the elements safe and in turn, they would be able to have great abilities and better safety. Safety? Yes I said safety. In the Elemental Realm that I live in, there are Creatures of Darkness that wish to steal the power of the elements for themselves so they can destroy every Realm and doom them to eternal darkness and suffering.
I first realized I had powers when I was five, on my first day of kindergarten. It was a huge shock to my teachers and my classmates when I threw a tantrum over a silly toy and all the water from the water fountains, faucets and fire sprinklers turned on and wouldn’t turn off until I calmed down. My dad had to pick me up early. He refused to explain anything until I was older. Well, that’s what he wanted until he noticed me one day using my powers to water the garden in my backyard when I was seven. By then I had already mastered the full extent of my powers and I felt like the element was a part of me.
My dad then explained everything, but at a young age, it was a lot to process. When he told me there were others like me for the rest of the elements, I was even more shocked. How could that be? How did I have that power? Then he told me of the great advantage over the other elements I had because I knew about my powers earlier.
When I asked him if I might come to know any of the other elements he laughed and told me that we were all born and raised in the same town, my home town Allasia of the Elemental Realm. Legend says that Allasia is where everything started, that it was the first place anything came to be so that's where the elements always return to when the Chosen One passes.
~~~
Back to present time. I'm at Declaration Day. A day where all the new generations of Chosen Ones step up on a stage in front of the people of Allasia and accept full responsibility of their powers over whatever element they belong to. And I can’t believe I just accepted my responsibility over Water and Ice. I walk gracefully offstage and smile to myself as I wait for the ceremony to end and I can officially meet the other Chosen Ones.
