Iris
It was around midnight. A pile-up of dirty used tissues were next to me while I was hugging my legs wrapping myself with my bed blanket. My eyes were worn from crying, my noise was so runny and my throat was dry. I have been watching another episode of 'A Gentleman's dignity'.
Yes it is a Korean Drama! I am a sucker for Korean dramas especially Rom-Com. It is my first day off over a month now, I missed few episodes and I am trying to catch up.
So the male actor in the drama is a player, but he's starting to like the female lead but she still thinks toying her, when they finally confirmed their feelings to each other, everything become perfect for the couple, but it turned out that the guy has a child from his first love and he didn't know about him. He loves the girl so much that he didn't want her to stay with her because he's a man with a child and she deserves better than him.
"Stupid people" I say out loud as I sniff. I take another tissue and I blow my noise. I've never been in love, I am twenty seven and I am almost thirty, I literally never been in a relationship. I am old physically, but I believe I am still a teenager at heart. I've never understand why would two people who are in love with each other leave each other. If they really love each other they should overcome the circumstances they are put through. No matter what. If I ever going to be in a relationship I am sure I will do that for the guy I will love.
"She is saying she loves you and she wants to stay with you idiot" I yell at my laptop as I watch the girl is hugging him that she's willing to go to the end of the road with him and he wasn't saying anything. He obviously wants to hug her back, but I don't understand what is stopping him.
"Love is simple, why is he complicating it?" I take a new tissue and I wipe my noise.
I was so into the scene when my phone rings. Ugh it is Yona, another idiot.
"What is it now, Darn it Yona" I sniff again and I put the phone next to my ear. "Hello?"
"Iris, Sydney, the patient who was admitted last Saturday is having a fever, I couldn't cool her down with the narcotics or NSAIDs, what am I supposed to do? " Fiona, who is also known as Yona is my friend since high school. She's my best friend. We're both are on our third year of UCLA Medical Center-the best hospital in Los Angeles, cardiothoracic surgery residency program. Yes, apparently I am a doctor. Or to rephrase and be specific, my best friend and I are surgeons in the best hospital in the city.
"Did you run the tests? She was fine last night when I checked on her" I shut my laptop close as I chew on my lower lip starting to get worried. "Yeah, the lab just called me saying they have the tests result, I need to run there to get them, I will call you as soon as I see what is wrong" she hung up. I wear my eyeglasses and I get off my bed and run to my secret place. The rooftop.
The rooftop is an area that I am not allowed to, but since the owner doesn't know the rooftop exists, it will remain my secret place. It is small though, but I always feel good here.
We are in the middle of October. The weather is getting cooler but it is warm comparing to the east coast and the other parts of the country.
I was wearing a baggy sweater and jeans shorts. My phone is my hand waiting for Yona's call, the gentle wind breeze was annoyingly playing with my hair, but it feels good.
I live in a two-story house with a small rooftop near the hospital. I moved here three months ago when I passed my second year of my residency. On my first year I lived in the hospital in our department. On the second year I stayed most of the time at the hospital, but I also kind of was staying at Fiona's place, with her parents.
