You wake up and instinctively turn to face Henry's side of the bed, hoping that he's came back from set during the night. Yet, when you turn to see the sheets empty and cold, all hope of him coming home on your birthday disappears.
Although he'd already told you that he couldn't make it home for your birthday and that he'd make it up to you when he does get back, you still couldn't help but hope he had wanted to surprise you.
Obviously not.
You pull yourself out of bed and lazily put on your slippers before shuffling out of the room and heading for the kitchen. Once you get there the food isn't the first thing you smell, it's Henry.
"You're just missing him, that's all it is. He's not really here." You tell yourself while you resume making some breakfast. Just as you close the cupboard, you hear something fall in the living room.
Fear slams into you, your heartbeat ringing in your ears. You look around for a weapon but find nothing that could save you if there really is an intruder.
You try to pick up a frying pan quietly then, holding the pan like a baseball bat, you exit the kitchen and head down the hallway towards the room from which more noise is emanating from.
Once you get to the door, you hear someone curse under their breath from inside and decide to surprise who's ever in their quickly so that they can't hurt you first.
On the count of 3, you swing open the door and swing for the person standing in the middle of the room.
"Woah, Y/N it's me!"
He grabs your hand holding the pan before it can hit him and pulls it down to show his face.
Henry!
You quickly drop the pan, letting it hit the floor with a loud bang and wrap your hands around him as you hug him closely.
You can feel tears starting to form in your eyes as he pulls you away so he can look at your face. Worry spreads of his as he sees the tears starting to fall down your face.
"Hey," he says softly, taking your head in his hands. "Aren't you happy to see me? I thought this was a great birthday surprise?"
You start laughing a little at him and the worry that was once on his face is instantly replaced by a massive smile.
"I'm not crying because j don't want you hear, it's because I thought I wasn't going to see you at all. I couldn't be happier Henry, honestly."
You smile up at him as he wipes away the rest of the tears then pulls you in for another hug. You turn your face so that you can see the living room clearly.
In the heat of the moment when you thought there was a burglar, you hadn't even thought of looking at the room properly.
Now, as you look around, you can see balloons on the floor and banners pasted onto the walls. You start smiling again as you look up at him.
"No present?" You say, feigning a hurt voice.
"Am I not a good enough present?"
You laugh a little then hug him tighter.
"You're the only thing I wanted, nothing else."
"Happy Birthday, love."
