CHAPTER 1: (unedited)

“Fate is like a strange, unpopular restaurant filled with odd little waiters who bring you things you never asked for and don't always like.”

                   ------Lemony Snicket.

I looked in the mirror as I quickly brushed my  long brown hair. I was going to be late for school again. I hurriedly took out my necklace. It was the first thing that I had which was truly mine. It gave me a sense of protection and safety. It was given to me by my mother a day before she died. She had told me that it was passed onto her by her mother when she was eight. So when I turned eight she handed it over to me. It was beautiful. The jewel was heart shaped with a silver out line. It went perfectly with every thing I wore so,it also had to go with my cream coloured shirt and the blue denim skirt and jacket, which it did. I gave my self a once over and then went to knock on my best friend's room."Amy we are gonna be late for school, hurry up!!" When she didn't answer I opened the door, Amy looked in the mirror as she adjusted her jacket. "Can't you chill out a bit,and good morning to you too, pumpkin." She replied coolly." You always make me late!!" I groaned. She only just laughed. "I am ready now though aren't I? And I made breakfast today so you can't say anything bad to me".
That cheered me up,"So what did you make for breakfast?"I asked curiously "Omelet with cheese and oh,Peter me called about ten minutes ago, said he forgot his history book here and was asking if you could return it to him at school"she said as we settled on the breakfast bar. I nodded while digging into my omlet. Peter was my best friend after Sarah. I met him in the first year of high school and we were in all the same classes so we became good friends." Yeah, I know I already put it in my bag" I smiled remembering how I had caught Peter doodling Sarah's name on his history book. And he hadn't forgotten it, I had kept it for ransom. I noticed that Sarah wasn't eating, just staring at me."What?is there something on my face?"

"You like him, don't you?" she asked mischievously. I mentally facepalmed."Who?Peter? Of course I like him he is my best friend"I said deciding to play along. Sarah just gave me a long look. I sighed"Do you really think I like like him?Let me make it clear, when I first met him and to this day and to the day I die I will love him like a brother I never had"I said all this in one breath. Maybe now she would stop making me love any man that I talk to.

She had had a boyfriend now and was hoping to be proposed soon. She did not want marriage yet but more of an engagement. As I had none, so she was determined to find someone for me. "Okay if you say so" she giggled "we are going to be late for school if we don't get a move on right now and wait for me at the front of the school after the bell. I have to tell you something very important". Sarah said excitedly."You can tell me now". I was curious at what she might want to tell me."No,after school. Now come on get in the car, I will drive you".I had my own car but since she was offering which was very rare,so I accepted.
