It was a warm summer day. The sun was shining and it was the perfect temperature to be outside. The young boy, age 16, was kneeling beside a flowerbed, covering up the roots of a small bunch of flowers. He wiped his brow, sighing contently at his work. An older lady called out to him, calling him in to lunch.
The boy stood, slipping his gloves off and pocketing them. He walked up the stairs to the cozy cottage he's known his whole life.
"Good evening, Grandmother!~ What do we have for lunch today?"
"Oh, nothing fancy," she chuckled, "we're just having beef stew."
"Ah, I love beef stew! it's wonderful after a hard day outside~" he laughed softly. His laugh was warm, cheerful. He sat down at the small table for two, watching eagerly for his meal. The older lady placed his bowl in front of him and sat down across from him. They began to eat cheerfully, making small chat between them.
"Oh, Zacharie, I forgot to tell you, we have an order that needs to be delivered today. The consumer lives out by the castle, and he requested the flowers be delivered ASAP."
"Ohh, the castle? That should be a fun trip! I'll head out right after lunch if that's alright."
"Of course, dear, but do be careful. Wouldn't want a wolf getting to you~"
"Oh please, Grandmother, I doubt that will be a problem~"
The older lady smiled softly at him, adjusting her glasses before finishing her meal. The boy finished soon after, cleaning up after himself before pulling on his long, black cloak. He picked up the large bouquet he was to deliver and smiled at his "grandmother."
"I'm off then~"
"Do be careful, dear~" the older woman sighed softly, fixing his messy brown hair to the best of her ability before she hugged him gently and sent him off. He went outside, readied his horse and rode off to the kingdom. It was a rather long ride, but by late evening he managed to arrive at the gates of the castle. He slowed his horse and stopped before the gate.
A guard walked up to him, "what's your business?" He was gruff and looked like he didn't really want to be there. He had a few buddies behind him, out by the wall sitting around doing god knows what. They all stared at him intently, eyeing him suspiciously.
"I have a delivery from Redbud Farms for a Lord inside of the kingdom walls." Zacharie said confidently, doing his best to ignore the hard stares he was receiving. He handed the guard the delivery box and note.
The guard checked the delivery then approved his entrance. The gates opened and the boy went in, looking at the small slip of paper to find where he was going. He traveled around a bit, looking at the townspeople as he did. The townspeople looked back at him, whispering to each other as he rode through the town. A newcomer, a peasant, not anyone special. To these people of superior status, the boy was nothing but a bother. He was inferior to them, and they were sure to get word around about him. He continued through the town, eventually turning down a small road and approaching a large house. He looked at the slip of paper and then back at the house. The size of the house was intimidating, but there was no backing out now. He got off and secured his horse before heading inside the gate with the bouquet in hand. He approached the door, taking a deep breath before knocking and waiting.
A young man came to the door, dressed in very high fashion. His hair was long and dark, coming down just above his shoulders. He was tall, looking down upon the much shorter male.
"Yes?" The male broke the silence as Zacharie stared at him in awe. The boy became lightly self conscious, his face flushing a light pink. He shook his head and looked up confidently at the taller man.
"I have a delivery for..." He took a glance at his paper, "Lord... Lawliet?" He looked back up at the man whose expression seemed unchanged.
"Mm, I see. Please, come in. We'll arrange payment and a place for you to stay." He turned, heading back into his house as though he had offered nothing more than a loaf of bread.
Zacharie tensed, "Ah, sir, that's really not necessary- I-I can make it home-"
The man turned and looked at the shorter one. He looked at the sky behind him and gave him a quizzical look.
"Its already late. If you go back out now, there's a... 70% chance you'll run into some sort of trouble."
Zacharie simply stared at him. He didn't move until the other male grabbed him by the shoulder and moved him into his house.
A small gasp escaped Zacharie's lips, looking at the high class decorations. There was a large spiral staircase just down the way in front of them, a brilliant white matching the soft, almost silver walls and furniture. It was almost... Pure... There was very little color, and where there was it was a soft addition. No vibrant colors could be seen, not even in the pictures along the walls.
The man cleared his throat, snapping Zacharie out of his trance. Zacharie's head lowered, "I apologize, sir. This house is lovely."
The man hummed, "thank you. This way, please." He continued walking, heading down a long hallway where an older man was standing. The older man smiled and opened the door for the two, allowing them in before following them inside and closing the door once more. The man who opened the door sat down in a large chair in front of a sleek wooden coffee table. He slouched a bit and crossed his legs. It was then Zacharie noticed an absence of shoes. He found it slightly strange, but he shrugged it off, deciding that this guy could do whatever he wanted and that he had no lace to tell him what to do, especially because of the wide gap in status they had. The man in question motioned to a chair across from his. Zacharie politely took a seat, holding the delivery box close to him.
He smiled nervously to the two, "Do excuse me, I haven't been to this area before. I'm not sure of the customs..." He cleared his throat, "however, I do have a delivery. To whom am I giving these?"
The younger man motioned for the older man to grab the delivery. He did so, gently taking the box and leaving the room. He returned soon after with a small pouch, handing it to Zacharie and returning back to his place. Zacharie looked at the pouch, weighing it in his hand. He smiled at the soft clang of gold that resulted from his toying.
He looked back up to find he was being intensely studied by the man across from him. Feeling nervous, Zacharie attempted small talk.
"So, ah... Who exactly is this 'Lord Lawliet'? I-if I may ask of course..."
The man across from him looked up slightly, "
