Chapter Four
We arrived at the police station and paid the bail price for Michelle. Alex stood in between Tyler and I grasping our hands with a surprisingly tight grip for a ten year old. MIchelle was led out from the jail and once in front of the desk she ran up to us and hugged all three of us. Alex gave Michelle a dirty look and said, voice dripping with disgust “What did you do this time?”
“Honey I didn’t do anything I promise.”
Alex said, again with voice dripping with disgust “Don’t honey me. I hate when you do stupid things that land you in jail, like say last month where you decided to tell an officer to shove it when you ran the red light.” Tyler and I stood there, mouths gaping, watching this whole thing unfurl.
Then I said in the sternest voice, a voice that was full of steel and commanded respect “Enough of this bickering we will discuss this once we get back to our place.” Tyler, Alex, and Michelle stood there gaping at me and I pointed towards the door and they left the station without another word. Before I left I apologized to the officers. Once outside and in the Jeep I said “We’ll discuss what it is you have done in the past ten years of having Alex that you have done to land your self in jail, even if it was an overnight then tomorrow we will go to our lawyer to get you set up for your court date.” I took off down the road and everyone sat in silence. Once back at the apartment I parked and got out. I stormed up the steps, unlocked the door, and held it open until everyone was inside. “What the hell have you done when you were with our child!” I shouted face turning a shade of purple.
“It started when he was five,” Michelle said “I started to mix in with a bad crowd and started doing some drugs like cocaine and marijuana. And I was caught doing them and thrown in jail, thats when Alex was dropped off by the state.”
“Yes we remember that part quite vividly.” Tyler and I said at the same time.
“Then once I was released I went into rehab and got better, thats about the time I came and got Alex back, you were reluctant but you had too because you had other things, mainly work to do and didn’t have enough time for Alex.” Michelle said.
“Get to the part we don’t know.” I spat at her.
“Well once Alex was seven I did something else stupid but didn’t get caught, I started selling drugs. And then what I get arrested for is running a red light and telling the cop to shove it where the sun don’t shine.” Michelle stated.
“And?” Tyler and I asked questioningly.
“Well thats it up until today when the cops came a knocking and told me I was wanted for the murderers of those two people.”
