James started coming to the bar more frequently. He'd say it was because Sal left something at his place, or that he'd need to discuss something with Sal (whether he knew he was there or not), but he'd always end up staying just a bit longer to have a conversation with you.
You didn't mind after a while, becoming accustomed to having someone really interested in you. He asked about your hobbies, and what angered you (while having a drink of course). You'd tend to other customers, but you'd always end up back in front of him. You kept yourself guarded, but knew he was true in his actions. What man would try this desperately and profusely just to get laid?
He'd finally gotten some sort of indication of you softening up to him when you finally agreed to go with him on a date, after weeks of persuasion. A date you thought would be either overly romantic or excessively boring with no sign of effort. But, he surprised you.
He found out your favorite restaurant and took you there. He let you order whatever you were in the mood for, no matter how many times you protested that he was not spending tons of money on you. He simply shook his head, ordering the thing he'd asked Sal was your favorite food-- that they'd known of.
After dinner, he'd convinced you to go to his house, where he'd set up a movie night. This was the moment you knew he'd become important to you one way or another.
He'd had a blanket set up in his den, his furniture moved around so that you could see his television just perfectly. An array of vintage and new movies sat on the end table closest to you, with a bottle of wine in front of it.
"I tried to pick things I thought you'd like," he spoke, pushing buttons on the microwave in the kitchen. "But I wasn't sure, so I picked one of everything."
You'd taken your shoes off while he went back to the kitchen to finish the popcorn, your fingers flipping through to find which movie seemed perfect enough.
It was the most blissful night.
Since he'd roped you in with the exquisite date, he'd taken you on many small coffee dates between his own job and his filming of the first season of this show that he and Sal had told you about. These small dates are where you'd gotten closer. Sooner or later, you'd started confiding in him the troubles you'd been having. The personal issues that weighed you down seemed to be things he relieved, nodding and telling you to do what's best for you. You'd done the same thing for him lately, after all.
You cried on his shoulder whenever a day at work turned horrible, and he never once complained or brought it up unless you did. In fact, he encouraged you to vent to him. It meant he actually meant something to you, which he knew was a hard thing to accomplish, seeing how many guys try to pick you up all the time.
He always asked you how you were, whether it be through text while he worked, or a call that lasted throughout the night didn't matter. He was caring. He visited you at your home whenever he could, becoming friendly with the small dog you had. He'd even bought the dog some treats every once in a while, a few toys springing from his jacket every few months. He wasn't telling you a damn thing, but showing you he could be the person you'd dreamt about at night.
He was becoming someone you felt you couldn't live without.
And he was feeling exactly the same about you.
