That first day I saw him. He walked into my apartment. Being the first to arrive on the seen, he instantly comforted me. His warm, glowing, light brown, eyes. Stared into mine. With his faint, yet perfect New York accent, he asked if I was okay.
"Um..." I looked up at him. He's beautiful, chocolatey, brown hair was short. Not an awkward kind of short though, the kind that kind of just was there... Perfectly shaping his head. His eyes full of concern and wonder. "Yeah, uh... Thanks..."
He looked down and moved he's name tag around in his fingers. "Jasper, Jasper Ross. but you can call me J- Deputy Ross," he said, stuttering as he stuck out his hand. "Nice to meet you miss...uh.."
"Ryan, Jessica... Jess Ryan" I shook his hand and smiled, he was just as nervous as I was.
"So, what exactly happened here.. Jess ?" he asked looking around at the mess that Brett had left, and then for approval on my new found... or at least new to him, nickname. I nodded then looked around. My glass vases were shattered. My furniture tipped over. And the worse off all? Kylie's ashes were scattered over the floor. All over. My little sister was now resorted to a mess on the floor.
"My ex attacked me," Jasper's eyes widened.
"Guys like that are weaklings, idiots even! " he said. Almost immediately he had started to frown as if I was his sister being attacked, and not a random stranger he had just met.
"Ya I know, I just wish he would leave me alone. Ya know?"
"Ya, I understand, these guys.... They," He paused, as if looking for the right words. "They never seem to get it. No means no. Right? Get over it, she just doesn't want you. If you lo..."
"If you love something set it free... exactly. Your completely correct, I just wish he new that..."
After we introduce each other, We toured the house. Ross made little notes on a pad that he had pulled from his pocket. While I was torn between being scared half to death, worrying that my attacker would jump out from behind a corner, and running to my sisters ashes to get her off the dirty floor as quickly as possible. I feared that the longer I waited the dirtier she'd get, I tried to get my mind of things, even though I had to explain in vivid detail the horrific events that had token place in my very own apartment.By the time we were done his colleagues started to arrive. It had occurred to me.
I looked at him "How come you got here so early?"
His perfectly aligned face looked surprised."You don't know?" I tilted my head on confusion.
"What?"
"I just moved in downstairs. My apartment is right under yours, 5b. I heard you screaming and stuff crashing, called it in, and ran up here to see if you were ok."
I smile, "I guess that makes you my knight in shining armor!"
He laughed, God he has the best laugh, "I guess it does."
A tall man in a suit walked up to us, "Ross, what are you doing?"
The deputy's eyes had a surprising fright to them. "Just comforting Mrs.Ryan, Smitty"
"That's Detective Smith to you," the detective turned towards me. He reminded me of the butt heads in books that never get the girls in the end, because of how they act like players and are so rude. "Hello Miss. Ryan," he said, as if trying to arouse me.
"Hi, detective,"
I remember looking at Ross, hoping he could get me away. The way he looked back at me said he couldn't. So I followed Shift out the door.
"So I bet your glad I got you away from that loser, right hot stuff?" Smith said, putting his hand on my ass, as we walked into the hall out of my apartment.
"What?" I replied turning around and immediately stopping in front of him.
"That dumb Deputy Ross. Who would want to talk to his lame ass," he said getting closer and putting his hands on my hips.
I pushed him away, "I would! That 'loser,' is twice the guy you'll ever be!"
"So you like that freak?" he looked disgusted.
"Ya, I do! Now get away from me."
"Whatever babe, you just don't want to admit your into me," by now we were half way down the hall.
"HEY! CAN'T YOU HEAR?" we turned around only to see my knight, once again here to save my butt. "She said get away"
"Ya, so what? Is the little baby going to shoot me?" he smirked and lifted he's arms, "go ahead and do it! Oh wait, I forgot. YOU DON'T HAVE A GUN!"
"Not being a detective doesn't make him a baby," I said walking over to Jasper, "but not kicking your butt, makes him the bigger man"
"So? Who cares?" Shift said, obviously ticked off.
"I do!"
