❁ Addison ❁
"She did not!" Kylie exclaimed, sashaying her hips as she struts down the hallways, resembling a constipated goose.
Sierra followed behind, carrying all my books like the 'loyal' friend she is.
The three of us walked the school corridors like models on catwalks, the entire student body parting like the red sea, making way for us. We were the queens of Salvadore Academy, a private school for upper east siders.
My parents had paid a fortune for this school, like every other child that went here. There was only a limited amount of scholarships available and you had to be extremely talented to be able to get in.
Talented. I drew in a breath. That word wasn't even in my vocabulary. I was only a rich pretty face who, like others fed on popularity.
Popularity means regarded with favour, approval, or affection by people in general. Some people misused this label. Popular kids could be the snobbiest kids ever and get away with it. And for what? We all are being used one way or another. Thrown away faster than a pair of last season Gucci boots.I wish people would realize they're making them "popular" by giving them support. Yet they let them step all over them.
I'm one to talk. I rolled my eyes at my immaturity. Still, the only reason I was regarded 'popular' was because of who I was. Pretending not to care when I actually did, it really wasn't my thing.
Everyone wants to be your friend to gain something from it. Whether it was fame or money, there were only a few real people in the world.
Kylie and Sierra didn't fit into that category, however. They are fake friends, just ordinary people from your daily environment. When everything is great, they stay beside you: you spend a lot of time together and they seem to be the closest friends you have ever had.
And then, one day, when something goes wrong and you really need them, their moral support, they simply disappear. Yesterday, when everything was good, they were there all the way for you and now they are gone, just like that.
But that is not all. Next thing you know, your so called 'friends' are your enemies: they backbite and your worst enemies are their best friends.
How could this happen to you? What did you do wrong?
The only reason I stayed with Kylie and Sierra was because we were both benefiting out of it. I kept my popular girl image, for me, my family and our reputation.
That's how people saw me and I didn't have anything wrong with that.
I just wish I could change who I was, write my own story. It wouldn't hurt to have a few real friends in my life.
I shook my head, sending those thoughts away before I went completely mental. Get a grip of yourself Addison! What was happening to me? I had already passed puberty so that couldn't be it. My period wasn't due for another week. I was so distorted in my own thoughts; I didn't realise I had walked right into someone. Not just anyone. Nick.
