Matty's POV
I heard the bell jingle above me as I entered Duke's, the new bar that just opened on 3610 Rice St, Lihue. I was meeting one of my friends and her new boyfriend James. "Hey! Matty over here!" I looked to my left to see the one and only Kendra Michelle. And right next to her was a red headed boy with thick glasses. Of course she always goes for the nerds I say under my breath as I sigh. I walk over and sit on Kendra's left. "So Matty, this is James my new hunky bunny!" Se squeals. Oh great, they have nicknames for each other now. I cough to try and cover up my laugh. I failed. "Don't laugh! Come on you two will become the bestest of friends!" Sometimes I think Kendra is actually my mom and not my best friend. "Please Matty! At least try!" She whispers in my ear. "Fine, I'll try but don't expect me to be all giddy like you." I say as I wave my hand to the bartender to order a drink. It's gonna be a long night.
*TIME SKIP*
I sip on my Marietta with pineapple as I listen to James talk about how they met. Supposedly they met at the college where James is attending and really "hit it off". I can tell they are exaggerating their story to try and get me to like James a little more but honestly if Kendra is happy then I'm happy. I'm a momma bear, I'm a momma bear. I pick up my phone and answer it. "Hey Jamie. What's up?" I ask. Jamie is my foster "mom". "Hey honey, do you think you could come home now? I have to talk to you about something." I inwardly sigh. "Yeah sure whatever. I'll be there in 20." I say and hang up the phone. "Hey Kendra I got to go, Jamie wants to talk to me about something." I say as I start to get up. "Ugh, seriously?! But you haven't even heard about how my parents reacted!" I sigh for what seems like the millionth time that night. "I'll call you later." I say as I grab my car keys and leave hearing the bell jingle as I walk out into the humid air. Gosh do I love Hawaii.
