A silent tear rolled down Kaitlin's face, she shook her head. No, it couldn't be true. She couldn't believe this; she could only hope that someone was playing a cruel, sick joke on her. But, that only happens in books and movies. This was real life, but she couldn't face it. Suddenly, she heard her mother's pained voice on the telephone.
"Honey? He just couldn't be saved, not this time. The chemo-"She heard her mother choke out a sob.
"-it just didn't work this time. I'm so sorry Katie-"She didn't let her mother finish, she threw the phone at the wall and watched it crumble into pieces.
For the first time in her life, Kaitlin Marie Lee Marsh felt completely and utterly alone. Her body shook with sobs. And before she let her world fade to black, she dropped to her knees and watched as the world she once knew, disappear from existence.
