Flames licked and smothered the cracking beams. Smoke filled the air, suffocating anything that remained. The terror filled screams surfaced and submerged. A wailing baby.
"Mal!" A feminine voice called out. "Help us! Mal! Mal! Mal!" It repeated over and over. "MAL! MAL!! MAL!!!"
I covered my ears to block out the noise but the splintering screeches of white noise engulfed them.
I felt light as feather. I was floating in an epitome of whiteness. My skin tingled but no pain came with it. A rumbling broke through the silence, vibrating creaks of metal accompanied it.
Submersed in the cooling blue, I drift. Looking around the vast water, I see two figures floating; one substantially larger than the other. I swam to them.
I stopped not far from them and horror filled me. I open my mouth to scream but water only filled it. Not a sound. I was suffocating.
I woke up to someone shaking me as I scream.
"Mal? Mal?" The voice I recognised as Nate's loomed over me. "Mal, are you alright?"
My rapid breaths were heavy. My body was shaking as I tried to regain control over myself. I nod, looking down at my quivering hands.
"Hey, it's okay. You're in the bunks, you're alright." Nate reassures, placing his hand in with mine. "You had the nightmare again, didn't you?"
I peer up, nodding as I tried to hold back the tears. Looking around the room, I saw that everyone was staring at us. It made me uneasy, I hate being the centre of attention but it's hard when you're the freak who has nightmares that disturbs everyone whilst they're sleeping.
It looked like Nate noticed as he demanded that everyone stop staring and go back to sleep. I'm thankful for Nate, he always had my back ever since we were kids. He's the only one that knows what happened; the source of my nightmares.
