Levy

Levy could feel her stomach whirling. It felt like she was on the edge of the sofa, when she was really tucked into the deep folds of the cushions. Ren was still creating a ruckus in the kitchen, dishes crashing and glass clanging loudly. Levi hoped that he didn't break anything. She wanted to calm him down, but she couldn't move. Lifting a single arm made her shoulder protest with loud shrieking, telling her to put it back down and not move an inch.

Levi.

Levi should be here. Ren wasn't helping with anything. He was only making loud noises that added to the pain of her headache. She wanted Levi. She needed him. It was so cold. Dark. Levi brought her light. Why couldn't she be sleeping in his arms? She could recall almost exactly the way he ruffled her hair, rested his hand on her shoulder, patted her gently in a 'there, there' manner. She was always warm around him. Her mother said that it was unnatural how he could run out in shorts dead in the middle of winter, how he could immediately jump in lakes without feeling the cold sting of the water. Levy didn't think it was unnatural. She thought that it was just Levi's personality, his smile that made him almost invincible to the dark and cold.

It was empty without him.

Like when you take a piece of furniture out a room. It has always been lying there, gathering dust and creating dents in the floor, and when it's taken away, you feel that slight strangeness. No matter how many times you walk into the same room, it still feels like something's missing.

Break, break, break.

Her mind was cheering. Hit the breaking point, HIT THE BREAKING POINT. Was it all a dream, her imagination, Levi's relationship with her? His entire existence?

Break.

Suddenly, there was the loud thumping of footsteps coming from outside and behind her. The first to reach her was Ren, and he lay down small bottles of what seemed to be medicine down on a table next to her. The footsteps outside faded, followed by rhythmic knocking. Levy perked up. Was her brother back?

Ren looked to her once with an unreadable expression, than glanced at the door, before rushing over to it and peeking out the peephole. "...It's Rin."

He didn't look her way and reached over to unlock the door for his younger sister. Levy could feel her shoulders droop more, and her headache pound louder. She immediately felt guilty. She should be happy that Rin is safe, but she couldn't help but feel disappointed, and slightly annoyed to find that Levi wasn't here with her. Did her brother leave her? Did he dump her here with Ren? It made sense. All her life, she'd been clinging onto him, hugging, sticking to his side like glue. No doubt her brother left her. If she were him, she would have done so the second she got the chance.

But it's Levi, he's nice... He wouldn't ever do such a thing. Would be?

People have breaking points. Levi was just more tolerable than others. Levy forced herself to swallow down her hopeful side.

"LEVYYY!!!!"

Before Levy could have another thought, a fluff of blue landed on top of her, dress full of frills and lace. The dress didn't make the little girl heavier, but rather seem like she was a giant balloon.

"Hello, Rin." She managed to choke out, her throat protesting strongly against her as she coughed.

Rin beamed, and patted her cheek delicately, oblivious to her internal struggle. "Nice to see you again Levy! I just saw Levi outside and he-"

Rin let out a deafening shriek as she was pulled from abruptly from Levy. She was almost kicked by the flailing limbs of the younger girl as she struggled helplessly.

"Levy's sick, Rin. Take off your coat and get me some towels from the back." Ren said, staring his younger sister down. Rin saluted and stepped backwards. His gaze didn't waver from her until she stepped out of the room. Then with a heavy sigh, he turned to face Levy, face unreadable.

"Levi's not coming back."
