Beep...Beep...Beep! My alarm on my phone went off. I rolled over onto my other side to turn it off but rolled out of bed and onto the floor instead. When I sat up and rubbed my eyes I realized that I was in the same clothes as yesterday. My messy bun was non-existent. I checked the time on my phone to find out it was 8:30am. Going into the bathroom, located across the hall, I brushed my teeth and tied my hair into a ponytail. I went back into my bedroom and unplugged my phone from the wall. No messages from Harry. Apparently he did forget about me, oh well.
For my outfit I picked out a pair of blue denim skinny jeans, a black sweater, and some strappy sandals. When I walked into the kitchen, Maria was standing by the island, pouring a cup of coffee. "Rough night?" she asked.
I pulled out the stool and sat down across from her. "Yes and very stressful."
She raised an eyebrow and handed me a cup as well. "Too busy worrying about Harry and possibly becoming future Mrs. Styles?"
I choked on the dark liquid after taking a sip. "No, I meant my essay that was due at midnight last night."
"Oh." Maria raised the mug back up to her face to hide her embarrassment.
Trying to change the subject I said, "So do you have any plans with Jacob today?"
She looked up at the ceiling and sighed. "Nope because we broke up last night."
I sat my mug down, "What happened? You two seemed so lovey-dovey in the car yesterday."
"Yeah, well apparently I wasn't being affectionate enough." Maria stared at the counter while tapping her fingers. I leaned forward, put my hand on hers and she looked up. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah. No I'm great. I'm just glad I could stand my ground. I mean, I'm your big sister. I've gotta set a good example for you," she smiled.
"Well, I'm just glad you're not hurt."
During the brief silence of our "sister bonding moment" I heard a faint beep! in a faraway room. I continued to look at Maria, hoping she didn't hear it. It was pretty obvious that it came from my computer, and I didn't need her getting my hopes up. Even though based on the fact that my heart was pounding, I'm guessing that that sound was all it took for me to feel this way.
"So, what did you make for breakfast?"
"Um, I actually hadn't thought about it yet. It's Saturday morning, so I figured I'd take things slow."
"Okay, cool."
"I have an idea though," she leaned forward, and I raised my eyebrows questioningly. "Why don't I work on making breakfast, while you go see if you received a message back from Harry yet?"
"What?" I tried to act innocent.
"Oh, c'mon Jane. I know that that sound in your bedroom came from your laptop." I grimaced at her words. "I also know that you're dying on the inside to find out what he said," Maria smirked.
I stood up from the stool and heard it squeak against the floor boards. "I'm not dying on the inside," I said dramatically. "I'm just curious." Then I walked to my bedroom.
I flopped onto my unmade bed and opened up my laptop. The Twitter icon on my home screen showed that I had one notification. I debated for about 30 seconds over whether I should open it or not until I finally clicked on it. I did receive a message from Harry.
I quickly closed my laptop and squeezed my eyes shut. Every thought I had right then revolved around that message. What if he really doesn't remember me? What it it's his management telling me to leave him alone? Maybe it's a fake account? I opened my laptop back up and looked at Harry's account name. It was totally verified. Now I really do need to open it. I finally clicked on the message and read it.
Habana girl? Is that you? If so it took you long enough. ;)
I smiled to myself and quickly thought of a witty comeback.
Well, unlike my sister, I don't spend my whole life stalking you. lol
I hit send, praying that Maria wouldn't see this message and be angry with me. It wasn't even a minute later that I got a reply.
Touché. How's your morning been?
Well, I haven't eaten breakfast yet, so I'm quite hungry.
Don't you work at a restaurant? Go grab some food from the kitchen!
Haha. No, that's only during the week. Right now I'm just Jane, the starving girl.
Good to know. So what are your plans for today?
Nothing really. I may go shopping with my sister. She could really use some retail therapy.
Oh no, did I say too much?
Is she alright?
Yeah, she's just going through boyfriend problems.
And what about you? Had any boyfriend problems recently?
Nope. I've been a single pringle my whole life.
Now that I find hard to believe.
It's true. What about you though?
Eh, I have plenty of girls who are friends. I'm not really looking for a girlfriend right now, though.
I felt a pang shoot through my chest. Where did that come from?
Well, join the club.
Speaking of clubs, I really have to go. I have a birthday party I'm attending tonight, and I don't even have a present. Can we pick up this chat later?
Yeah, totally. Have fun!
I closed my laptop and face planted onto my bed. Suddenly, Maria's description of me being depressed didn't seem so far fetched.
