Lana huffed as she walked to the infirmary for her new job. Sister Celia told Lana that she would no longer be working in the bakery now that she was with child, to many dangers for a carrying mother, they said. Now, Lana would be working in the infirmary, looking after a special case.
She wasn't told much other than it was a staff member who had recently turned very ill. She didn't have to do much other than making sure the person stayed in bed. She pushed open the door and walked to bed twelve. Upon setting eyes on the woman who occupied the bed, she wanted to run.
Sister Mary Eunice's limp body laid on white sheets. After the blonde let Thredson go, Lana's trust in the woman was far out the window.
"There's no fucking way!" She yelled at Doctor Arden who came into the room.
"That's no way to speak, Miss Winters." The man scolded the inmate.
"I am not looking after her! You don't understand what she's done!" Lana protested once again.
"She's a changed woman. You do not understand the ordeal she's been through." The doctor explains. "She will need help to get back on her feet."
"Well, I'm not the one doing it! I'd rather jump off the roof than help her!"
"You can, and you will. If you would like to sleep tonight I suggest you watch her." With that the old man walked off.
The brunette huffed in anger as she sat in a chair next to the nun. For Lana it wasn't necessarily what Mary did, but that she changed so much from when they first meet. At first meeting Lana was instantly attracted to the nun. And, when she was in-prisoned in the hellhole they call a hospital, Mary Eunice was one of the only people she was fond of. She even had strong feeling towards the woman, that she knew she must keep to herself or Jude would cane her to death.
Thinking of the woman she grown to hate, made a tear slide down her sunken in cheek. She wondered what happened to the pure innocent women she met on the stairs outside. The one, she ran into and teased in the woods. The one, she had grown to love.
Lana was lost in her thoughts, not even realizing that the woman who clouded her thoughts had awoken. Mary was shifting in the bed, her hands still grasping her rosary that her father gave her at a young age. Her blue eyes fluttered open to see Miss Winters sitting next to her with tears in her eyes. She instantly was filled with worry for the brunette.
"Miss Winters, why are you crying?" The blonde asks as she sat up slowly, trying to not whine at the pain of her body.
Lana sniffles back her tears and looks at the nun who was paler than usual. "It's just...hormones." She lies.
"Oh..." Mary remembers the horrors that Lana had told her and what they brought to the poor woman. "I'm so sorry..."
"Why?"
"I didn't help you...I didn't call the police like I said. Lana, I'm so sorry." Mary tries to get out of bed, but her body is to weak so she falls back instead.
"Don't get up," Lana says as she stands. "And it's fine."
Of course Lana was still mad, but seeing the nun in such a weak state she didn't want to make it worse. She didn't have it in her to yell at the woman who she still crushed on.
Mary looked so beautiful in her natural state. Her hair a complete mess, and only clad in a light gown. She laid back whining at the feeling of the fabric of her gown rubbing against burn that were on her chest.
"What happened to you?" Lana asked as she sat back down. She could see the burns on the blondes chest, and red handprints on her arms and ankles as if she was being held down and bruised.
"You wouldn't believe me." Mary laughed sarcastically.
"Try me, I've seen a lot here."
"I was in an exorcism." The nuns voice was a whisper hoping no other patients around her could hear.
"What?" Lana furrowed her brows.
"Do you remember that boy that came in here about ten months ago. He talked in tongues, and whatever else. And the preformed an exorcism on him." The brunette shook her head no. "It was the night Grace and Kit tried to escape."
"Oh...yes. I think so."
"The demon...no the devil that was in him—it came into me." Mary pauses and tries to sit up again. "That's why I acted the way I did. A-and I'm s-so sorry." Mary began to cry again.
Lana got up and sat next to the blonde. She let the other woman rest on her chest as her arms wrapped around the nun. After Mary calmed down, she pulled away from the other woman.
"The burns on my chest is from holy water...the marks are from the Monsignor and Arden."
"Holy water? I thought that stuff was good." Lana says.
"It is, but when the holy water is put on the body that the devil inhabits...its not so good. It burned pretty bad. Luckily I wasn't conscious when the exorcism was preformed."
"You weren't?"
"No, I haven't been for the past months that the devil inhabited my body. I had no control over anything. It was like I was stuck in a cage of my own mind." Mary sighs.
"You're being serious aren't you?"
"Yes, I wouldn't lie...well, the real me wouldn't lie, Lana." Mary rest her head on the woman's should as she continues. "I'm going to call the police tomorrow...I'm going to make this right for you."
Lana wasn't sure if she could truly trust the nun, but she hopes she could.
