Part-15 Trying to forget everything

Nandini's POV

The drive was unusually silent. Only the honking of cars could be heard. I kept looking outside, to avoid any conversation with Aryamann. I was still lost in my world, when the car came to a halt. I looked out and realised that we had reached to my place already.
I turned towards Aryamann, to thank him for all this. He has been my all time saviour.
"Aa.." Before I could say anything, he said, "No need to thank me, Murthy. I can understand." He said with a smile. "Hmm.." I smiled weakly.
"Good night" I said and stepped out of the car.
I turned back and smiled at him before moving inside.
I just hoped that no one was awake coz if they will see me like this, they'll get worried. I tiptoed inside and thankfully everyone was asleep. I rushed to my room and locked the door.
I went towards the dressing and looked at my reflection. It was opposite to what I was looking when I left.
I was happy, when I went and now, I looked devastated. My mascara was smudged. My eyes were red with anger. I touched my cheeks.
They were red like tomato, when he sang for me. Everything was perfect.
The party.
The atmosphere.
Him and me.
But everything got ruined just because of him.
Irony is that, when I left, I was excited to meet him. He was supposed to be my happiness and now, when I returned, my happiness had disappeared and he was responsible for it.
I think I should forget him and concentrate on my career. That is more important right now.
Yes, my career. I need to achieve many things. For that, I need to forget all this. Especially, Manik.
I removed my earrings, grabbed my night wear from cupboard and went to take a shower.

After the shower, I laid on my bed and stared at the ceiling. I rewinded everything that happened. Everything was okay except for the words which I said to him. I was too much harsh on him. I regret saying those words to him. This time, he wasn't at fault. But those three people were related to him. So, he was at fault.
My heart and mind were at battle.
'It was his fault.' Mind said.
'No it wasn't.' Heart replied.
'How can you be so sure?' Mind questioned.
'Did you not see? He was shocked hearing everything that happened. This means he wasn't involved in all this.' Heart said confidently.
'Maybe he was acting.' Mind retorted back.
I got irritated and shouted, "Can you both just shut up?"
'Okay!' Heart said.
'Yeah..whatever...' Mind said.
I pulled the blanket above my face and slept.

Next day

My sleep was disturbed by the sun rays peeping through the curtains of my window.
Today will be a fresh new day and a fresh new start. I was determined that nothing bad will happen.
With that determination, I woke up and went to the washroom to freshen up.
I got ready, took my things and went downstairs for breakfast.
Everyone was sitting at the dining table.
"Good morning Dad." I said while sitting on the dining table.
"Good morning, Nandu." He said with a smile.
"Dad, Rishu kahan hai?" I said while placing the toast on my plate.
"He went to college."
"Okay!" I said while munching my toast.
"Arrey Nandu, you are awake? When did you come last night?" Maa asked while coming from the kitchen with juice. She sat opposite to me. As soon as she asked that, the food which I was eating, stopped midway.
Yesterday's event flashed in front of me.
The first thing that came was Manik's face and then those harsh words which I said to him.
I was still thinking about it, when my chain of thoughts broke due to constant calls of maa, "Nandu, Nandu, kya hua beta? Tell me kab aayi tu? Uthaya kyu nahi tune?" Maa questioned me again.
"Uhuh..maa, I came late. Everyone was asleep. So, mera man nahi kiya uthane ka. Do I directly went to my room." I answered.
"Acha, so how was the party? Did you enjoy?" She asked me again.
Aiyappa , not again! Now what should I tell?
I was still wondering what to tell, when my phone rang.
Saved by the bell..pheww..
It was Navya's. I excused myself to attend the call.
"Hello"
"Hello Nandu"
"Haan Navya bolo!"
"Nandu, how was the party?" She asked excitedly.
Ohh no aiyappa! Why is everyone asking the same question.
"Umm..navya, it was good." I tried to keep my tone as normal as possible.
"Okay. So, tell me everything." She was asking me to tell her everything but only I knew that if I told her anything, her excitement will get converted into anger for which I'm not ready.
So instead of telling her the truth, I made an excuse, "Navya, actually I'm getting late. I will tell everything later in the evening."
"Oh okay, okay. Sham ko milte hai." She said in understanding.
I sighed in relief.
"Hmm..bye"
"Bye, have a good day." She said and hung up.
I went towards the breakfast table. Till then dad had already left and maa was still sitting there. I drank my left over juice, picked up my things and said, "Maa, I enjoyed the party. Chalo, I'm getting late. I'll meet you in the evening. Bye."
I hurried towards the main door.
"Okay beta, bye." She waved and went in the kitchen.
I sat in the car and asked the driver to start the car towards the hospital.
