Shit, shit, shit! Why the hell did I stay up so late?! I have a Calc final and I am....20 minutes late. Fuck. I jammed my keys in my Jeep. I turned the ignition and....nothing. No. Are you fucking kidding me?! I slam my hand against the wheel. Shit. I look around for anything to jumpstart the engine. I get out and slam the hood. Fuck, fuck, fuck. Suddenly, I hear a car in the street. I turn and see a bright blue old '87 VW bug. I see it every day at school. I wave my arms, and the girl in the passenger seat nudged the driver and he stoppe. The girl's eyes widened as the guy got out. "Hey, I've see you at school, right?" he asked in a baritone voice. I smiled sheepishly. "Uhmm...yeah. Can you give me a ride?" the girl was shaking her head and looked pissed. The guy grinned. "Sure man." He loped back to the car, and leaned his seat foward so that I could climb in. I sat in the back and the girl glared at me from the front seat. She was really...beautiful. Hilary, Jo, and Aundrea had nothing on her. She had windblown black hair, and wide green eyes. Which were narrowed at me. I gave her a crooked smile, which always worked, but she just narrowed her eyes even more. "So...I don't even know your name!" The guy said laughing.
"Oh I'm Larson."
"Lars? Nice to meet you. I'm Breccken."
"Nice to meet you. And you are?"
The girl finally spoke. "Why? So that you and your cronies can mock me by name?" Oh shit. I knew this girl. Hilary, Jo, and Aundrea's chew toy. I winced. "Yeah. That's what I thought."
"Oh knock it off Na-"
"Shut. The. Fuck. Up."
I glanced at the two of them. "Hey, I'm innocent. I just pass the football." Breccken's eyes widened. He quickly looks down and up. "You know, you jerks ruined Breccken's life." Na- said. What? We did...oh. I remember the freshman tryouts. I remember a scrawny, short kid with messy black hair being pushed to the ground. Chants rose up around his crumpled form as they closed in on him. I remember them all spitting on him. I just stood there. I could've done something. Should've done something.
I shook the memory from my mind. That's when I noticed Breccken's wrists. Covered with scars. One was scarily long, and wrapped around all of his veins. "I-I'm, really sorry Breccken." He smiled crookedly. "I don't recall you in that circle. It's alright now." That's when we were up at school. Well, I know I missed my final. The three of us stepped out of the Bug. Na- began to walk quickly. I glanced at Breccken. He shrugged. "Uhm...what's her name?" I asked.
"Natalia."
Natalia.
