My alarm clock buzzed on my desk, waking me from my slumber. One of my dogs ran in and jumped on the bed. I was still incredibly tired from the party one of my co-workers had last night; I probably shouldn't have gone on a work night. I sat in the kitchen and looked at my work planner, seeing if I had to shoot any videos. I saw nothing listed for today.

My eyes wandered over the rest of the week and I stopped when I saw the words, 'try guys' sprawled on the paper. I had completely forgotten about it! I was filling in for Keith while he was sick.

My phone buzzed once more and I saw that Ned had texted me.

"Remember to pack for the survival trip. We leave Wednesday at 6:00am"

Shit. I hadn't started packing or mentally preparing for this trip. Oh well.

I walk to my wardrobe and slip on some ripped jeans and a red sweatshirt. I put on some matching red converse and pull my hair in a messy bun. I looked at myself in the mirror and debated the use of makeup. I ended up swiping some subtle foundation, eyeliner and lipstick.

I looked at the clock once more. Damn; I was late again. I quickly petted my dogs goodbye and sped off to Buzzfeed.

I arrived only to find out I was requested at a meeting. I walked in the conference room and saw Ned, Zach, Eugene and one of the directors.

"Well guess who finally showed up!" Ned said laughing.

I smiled back at him and looked around the table. Eugene only raised his eyebrows.

The director started speaking again.

"The TV show, Alone, is challenging you guys to survive outside in teams of two, for three days*. We are gong to give you most of the necessities, so you don't need to bring much at all besides yourself and your clothing."

I zoned out and my eyes drifted to Eugene, who was sitting opposite of me. He was listening intently to the director.

I snapped back into consciousness when Ned poked my arm. He mouthed 'five minutes' and I smiled at him in thanks.

"You each are going to get a Go-Pro to bring with you and a separate camera; plus a heap of extra batteries. All of the survival equipment is being supplied by the instructors."

The director looked down at his list and smiled. "All right guys, that's it. I'll see you all on Wednesday."

Everyone gathered their stuff and stood to leave when Eugene grabbed my shoulder. I smiled at him.

"Long time no see, Y/N." he said, "Have you been avoiding me?"

I stare at him, "No. Why would I avoid you?"

He looks back at me and shakes his head confusedly.

"Never mind. We should get a coffee sometime."

"Yeah that would be nice" I said.

Me and Eugene used to be really good friends; well, we still are friends - but it kind of fizzled out. My friend Sara, told me he was just trying to hook up with me, and he didn't care. I didn't really believe her, but she made me stay away from him.

I just hoped that substituting for Keith could maybe rekindle our relationship.

What am I talking about? I inwardly scoffed. We flirted, but I doesn't mean anything. Not to him at least.

"Earth to Y/N?" he said as he snapped his fingers near my face. "What are you thinking about?"

I grinned evilly, "I was thinking about your perfect hair."

As I said this I swiped the top of it and it stuck on edge just like I wanted to. I couldn't help but laugh, it was the first time I'd ever seen him look less than perfect.

His jaw dropped open and then his mouth formed and adorable smile. He pulled out his phone and gasped when he saw the mess I had created.

He stared at me for a moment. My heart dropped and I thought maybe I had overstepped the line. I visibly cringed.

He laughed. "I got you, didn't I?"

I punched his shoulder. "That was mean."

He glanced at the clock at the end of the room. "I got to go. I'll call you ok?"

"Yeah. I'll see you tomorrow."

He looked at me with a raised brow. "Aren't you coming to Sara's party?"

I frowned. "No, I haven't been invited."

"I thought you two were close?"

"So did I."
