I pace the floor of my room, checking my face in the mirror every time I pass it. He wasn't going to like this. He was going to be so much more furious about this than I am.
I hear a tap at my window and jump, a small squeak escaping my lips.
"Oh god here goes nothing" I whisper taking one last look in the mirror before unlocking my window.
"Kyle" I mumble with a weak smile on my face.
"Annika, what the hell happened here?"
"What do you mean?" I say with false questioning.
"Your room is a complete mess, you don't look like you've slept in weeks and you've been crying. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that.
I take a deep breath and actually look around my room. I notice the multiple articles of clothing strewn over every piece of furniture. I take in the fact I have pictures from the basement hidden under every possible surface, but not hidden all to well. Heaps of used tissues lay in patterns across the floor and bed.
I bite my lip and turn to the mirror and realize I do resemble death, causing me to lose it all over again. Tears instantly spring to my eyes and stream down my face.
"I went back down into the basement yesterday" I whisper.
Kyles eyes got wide. "What the hell did you find down there?" He practically shouts.
I jump towards him and cover his mouth with my hand, glaring at him.
"Don't you raise your fucking voice at me" I growl, "I'm in no mood for it."
Kyle looks at me like I have eight heads and backs away from my hand.
"Look. Come on. I have to show you something. You have to be super quiet though" I whisper and grab his hand.
I feel him flinch but before I could react to it he squeezes my hand back and nods silently. "Let's go." He whispers.
I cautiously step towards my door and press an ear against it. I listen for a few moments for the slightest hint of life , only moving away when I was sure there wasn't anyone outside my door.
Grabbing a bobby pin off my desk I quickly bite off the protective ball at the end, pulling the wire out straight.
Kyle watches me pick my lock in fascination. As soon as the lock clicks indicating its unlocked he decides to speak up.
"Do you do this every time you leave your room?" He asks cautiously.
"Yup" I chirp up, "pretty sick isn't it?" A huge smirk erupts across my face.
However before he responds I grab his arm and drag him through the now open door. Once through I slowly shut it and lock it, reassuring myself no one will think I'm gone.
Slowly we make our way down to the basement hand in hand.
I shove kyle into the basement before me, not really caring about the thud his body makes when it hits the ground. My parents won't be able to hear us down here.
"Over here," I say pointing over to the TV in the vorner, "I found an old VHS player last time I was down here"
"And?"
"I watched the VHS tapes that were in the box," I pause taking in a deep breath, "I think I know who mister is" I whisper.
