I stared out the window, holding my arm. Once we arrived at this so called 'Rainbow Society', they left me standing in front of a huge building. I slowly started to make my way towards it, when I suddenly got a massive headache.
"Hey, you okay?"
I glance over to my left to see a girl near my age. "Yeah... I'm fine..." I replied, "Just a headache... No big deal." The girl looks at me and smiles. "I'm Scarlett... But most people here call me Scar." Scarlett said. "And why is that?" I ask. Scarlett rolls up the sleeve to her sweater, revealing cuts and other wounds on her arm.
"So what are you doing outside? Aren't you afraid of being caught?" I asked Scarlett. Scarlett shakes her head and laughed. "They won't catch you if they don't notice you're gone... The keepers don't pay attention to us, anyways." She says.
"Keepers?" I questioned.
"Yeah... That's what we call those people in the white overcoats." Scarlett replied.
"Hey... If you don't mind me asking, can you explain to me what the Rainbow Society is?"
Scarlett's face turns pale for a second, and her smile immediately fades away. I look into her dull green eyes, which are full of sadness and anger.
"The Society..." she whispered.
Scarlett shakes her head and blinks a few times. "The Society is supposed to help with your problems... But all they do here is make everything worse. I've lost everyone close to me because of this stupid place." Scarlett said angrily. After a long round of silence, the front doors open up, and two men in white coats step out. Without a word, one walks over to Scarlett and drags her back inside.
I stand there, and stared at the other man, who motioned for me to follow him. I hesitantly walk inside, and a cool blast of air hits my skin. The man then stops, and tells me to stay put while he gets something, so I stand there, and look around. The long hallways were dimly lit, and a few other lights along the walls were busted. The walls were painted solid blue, with different colored stripes running horizontally.
When the man returned, we continued walking until we reached a closed iron door. I watched as he unlocked the door, to reveal a somewhat neat 'room'. As instructed, I walk inside, and watch the door close behind me. Right after sitting down on the rock hard bed, a note slid under the door. Out of curiosity, I go and pick it up.
Patient P14:
Amber Jones,
20
Female
12 years....
The Rainbow Society welcomes you. Here, we help patients get over their problems, and we do it much faster. Every other Friday, you will be sent to a specialist to talk, and to share everything with. Please do notice that out of the very little patients we have, it is easy for anyone of them to snap... So in order to stay safe and protected, stay in your room until instructed to leave.~TRS
I look up at the blank white wall in front of me, and sigh. I toss the note in the corner of the room. I go back to sitting on my so called 'bed', and starting thinking, when I heard a loud knock come from my door. My eyes widened as I jumped.
I opened my mouth to ask who was there, but instantly shut it.
"May I come in?" A feminine voice asked.
I stood up and headed towards the door.
"Who's there," I asked coldly.
"It's me Scarlett... Let me in before they see me," the voice replied.
I opened the door, and Scarlett walk in. "Close the door... This is important," She said. I nodded and shut the door. "Did you receive the letter, yet?" Scarlett asked.
"Yeah... It's in that corner over there," I replied.
Scarlett looked over to the corner and smiled a bit.
"Okay, did you visit that specialist they mentioned?"
"No, and I'm not planning on doing so... Last time I did, it didn't end very well..."
"Okay... But here's a warning. If you ever decide to go, just know that they will try to hurt you in some way... And it has killed people before..."
"And why are you telling me this?"
"Because... I don't want someone like you to get hurt. You have more to live for, and staying here isn't part of it... I don't say this to a lot of people, but, we can get out of here one day... We'll escape this hell together."
