“Anirbas,” Heather said softly under her breath to Matt. Matt looked at their enemy, then back at Heather, disbelief in his eyes.
“Her?” Matt pointed. “The girl working the ride?”
Heather nodded. “Yes! I promise.”
“Heather, she looks pretty innocent. She’s even wearing a name tag!” Matt pointed out. Heather squinted at Anirbas, and saw a clean white rectangle of plastic sitting nicely on her chest that read Sabrina E. “We’ve never met a Mordan that’s gone under a fake name.”
Yeah, but Matt, look at her shoes! It’s got the dark green bottom,” Heather argued. “I’m positive it’s her!”
Matt sighed. “Okay, then. If you’re sure,” Heather nodded firmly. “Alright. Let’s kill her.” Heather’s eyes widened as she thought about what she had to do, but pushed those thoughts to the back of her head. She grabbed Matt’s arm and started pushing her way through the throng of pedestrians, Matt in tow.
Finally, they had shoved their way to the front of the line. Anirbas was sat on a raised platform just in front of Matt and Heather with a podium in front of her with the controls of the ride on it.
“Hey, over here!” Heather whispered loudly, tapping the edge of the platform trying to get Anirbas’ attention. It worked.
Anirbas’ blank expression quickly turned sour as she glanced over and saw who was standing there. She glowered at the pair as she reached for the microphone resting on the podium in front of her.
“Attention ladies and gentlemen. We are sorry to announce that there are technical difficulties on the ride. We apologize for the inconvenience. Have a great day!” Anirbas snarled into the microphone. A collective groan sounded in the room.
“Here,” Matt nudged Heather and slipped a small dagger into her hand. “You’re going to need this.” Heather looked and saw that Matt had one of his own in a small sheath around his waist. She faintly smiled at him and he gave a slight nod back, golden eyes glinting. They both knew that one of them, whether it be a Kidellian or a Mordan, wouldn’t come out alive. This would be a fight to the death.
Out of nowhere, Anirbas pounced on Matt, shoving him down onto the ground. Heather innately knew what to do. She quickly pocketed the knife and channeled all the adrenaline coursing through her body. She closed her eyes, time seeming to stand still and silence encircling her. Heather had only done this once before, but her body and instincts told her what to do. Her eyes flew open and energy exploded out of her. The earth took on that familiar golden hue, and everything moved in slow motion. She saw Anirbas soar backwards and Matt stand back up in the position he was before, both defying all laws of gravity. Heather blinked, and the colors around her snapped back to normal. Anirbas, who had been stopped mid-air, slammed into the ground with a loud thud. She lay there for a moment, dazed and bewildered.
“God, that’s cool!” Matt shouted. Heather beamed, and her heart skipped a beat. She felt heat rushing to her cheeks.
Not the time! She scolded herself. Heather shook her head, trying to refocus.
“Fluffy! Ginger! Get out here now!” The Kidellians heard Anirbas scream. She had leapt up to her feet and anger glowed in her ice cold eyes. Two identical cats came prowling out behind Anirbas. They looked like every one of Anirbas’ kittens, which all were replicas of the kitten from the emblem.
“You get Anirbas, I’ll take care of the cats,” Matt murmured to Heather. She nodded slightly in response. Heather leapt onto the raised platform and kicked Anirbas right in the stomach. Anirbas stumbled backwards, but caught herself before completely falling. She ran forward and tackled Heather to the ground. Heather struggled under her grip. She exerted her energy in one big force, and managed to push Anirbas over so that Heather was now on top of her. Anirbas shoved her off, and Heather hit the wall behind them. She slumped to the ground, already exhausted. Heather pulled herself up, getting an idea. She focused on the podium right behind Anirbas. She saw the molecules quickly speed up. A spark ignited the podium, and flames soon engulfed it. Surprised, Anirbas stumbled forward.
